I have never understood the goal of making your own family. The goal should be flying the best kit you can.
I am of the opinion that when you are breeding from birds that you banded, then they are your family.
I also believe that the roller community will tell you when you have a "family". In my case they will be saying "I need to get some of those Maxwells" LOL
In the meant time I will just keep working to improve my stock.

Ah but Max just because you bought some birds and bamds then bamded the young does that cancell out the guy you bought them from? He spent 10 maybe twenty years building that name why should you be so quick to take his glory. You will go to shows and lofts where guys have been breeding from a well known name and still say my birds originated from so and so's loft. Heck how long has Pensom been gone and guys are still exploiting his name. I think you need to be honest and give credit where credit is do. It would be fair to say you are working with so and so's family but come on just because you buy some birds and bands doesn't mean you all of a sudden are an expert roller man. It also doesn't mean you eliminate the guy who has put his blod sweat and tears into them. In my opinion if you are using birds as breeding stock or have them in your loft with another mans bands that man should be give atleast part of the credit for where your birds stand. Excellent roller guys give credit where credit is do. If you learn anything about the roller hobby learn that honesty is the best policy. If your word isn't worth a handful of pigeon crap people won't trust you then heck if you haven't got your word what do you have.
Just My Two Cents!!

I consider my family after 2 generations because I am the one who is selecting, pairing, judging etc...However if some one ask which bloodline or family my birds originated then the correct answer would be to specify fancier name from whom you got the birds from. Just my opinion.

Sid so after a year and a half maybe two you consider what someone else took years to build and was nice enough to include you in your blood sweat and tears.. Don't you think that this is a little early? Yes you are doing the pairings from where they (the person you got the birds from) built the foundation of your flock. I think it would be a little more fair for you to answer to people that you are working with so and so's family of birds and eventually hope to get them to where they would be your family. If the birds you are pairing up have another mans bands on them how can that possibly be to your credit. Argue all you want it is just good edicate to give credit where credit is do and two generations is way to early to cut out the person to whom you got the foundation birds from. As I said before if the birds in your breeding program have another mans bands on them then that person deserves some of the credit.
JUST MY OPINION
