If you flag them out each time they will get it after a few times and will burst out as soon as you open the door.
Just be aggressive with the flagging and they will get it. If they don't you may have a group of dumb asses.

Yee, Believe it or not, I hate them suckers that at any chance will flush out of the box. They are usually the super wild suckers. I kind of like it when they wait till I am ready for them to take flieght. Many times, when I reach in to grab a bird or two, they will just fly about back and forth inside the kit box. Even if the kit box door is wide open. The birds I have are naturally strong fliers and will hit the air right after leaving the kit box. If I had a choice, I would rather have birds that need to be chased out then birds that flush out at the slightest of openning. If you don't like to chase your birds out, maybe try adding a fly pen cage to the kit box. Lock them out and release them from there. Here is a photo of one such kit loft own by a fellow of mine and release method:

Sometimes I just open the door and walk away. Usually it only takes a minute or less for them to all come out when I open it and walk off. Sometime I stick my arm in and make a roundup motion and chase out a few at a time. They will adapt to what you do.

Most guys will have some form of a flagging pole system. Like tipping a stick/pole with a clothe type material to flag out or off their birds. Some guys will have a Ball... soccer/basket/tennis/etc. My flagging pole is just a 8 foot 1/2" x 1" wooden pole. Not tipped with anything. Everyone has one form or another. Thor

Hey Yee, here is a video of me flagging my kit birds out using a flag like the ones we sell here on the site: Flagging Kit Video
Video is almost 3 megs, so may take some time for dial-up connections to download.

if you wear a ball cap,you will always have a flag on your head. using your self to scare the the birds is not a good idea you do not want them scared of you, use something else. works for me, my 2 cents. jerry

Those kits that attack the door as soon as you open it can be a real pain, not a good idea to be standing in front of the door when it opens. On my latest set of kitboxes, I made doors on the front and back. The only time the front door opens is when it's time to fly. Everything else is done from the backdoor, the birds catch on pretty quick.
