Is it acceptable to mate brother and sister birds?

I personally do not like to breed that close. I have tried it and not had any luck, alot of HOT birds or birds that just did'nt act right. My favorite is mother to son, father to daughter. I had a grandmother to grandson mating that produced great birds every pairing.

It is often done, but my successes with it are a lot fewer than when I put daughter to father and son to mother. Father to daughter has been the most successful as long as you still keep "best to best" approach.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I prefer 1/2 sibling matings but I do have a full bro/sis on eggs this year.

Kellinos,

Go to the All Roller Matrix on the side and read "Series III - Line Breeding Made Simple." This will explain to you in depth about brother to sister mating.

Hope this info will help you.

I tried couple time with Sammy WIlliam's birds, they turn out to be too hot, roll down to much and super deep. but if i were breed half sister and 1/2brother together. they offspring are much stable and better than any other methods i had experience before.

Ken Billing is well known for breeding bro&sis. most of his good birds were out bro&sis mated. i personal didn't heard this from Ken himself, i heard this from a guy who live in central california and he won 2004 fall fly.

Allright, thanks for all yer input guys and the direction to Roller Matrix.Haven't read that yet but will.Think I'll take 3 pair out of this new kit to the breeder loft and start em producin'.Gentleman who gave the birds to me says not to worry the bro siss thing.Pick some pairs n get em laying with show homer fosters then I'll have some kitbirds left to fly.

I believe you could mate bro and sis only for the right reason only, they are breeders who do it for the wrong reason, just because they are related is not a reason, you should know why you want to do it. I have done it once to keep my family genitics,in abundence with thier off spring.the two siblings were great in type, character, and expression they had great,(rich)in eye sign along with being great breeders in the stock loft, till this day the trait still carries out generation after generation. I wanted to make sure I had this quality for years. So i would advice dont mate family members together just for the mere sake of them being related, know why or what for......................GOOD LUCK.......... Greed for Speed.

Dave who gave me these birds didn't keep good enough records to tell me who is related. To bad so cause I don't want to lose any before I pick breeders,Think I'll take out some pairs before I fly any and just try to keep the ones with close band # separate.Hoping as long as I don't continue to use bro sis in future will be ok.
Cheers,
Kel
