Naw Jef, the two longer feather on the tails should have nothing to do with perfofmance,it's most likley it could be a family trait that is inherited,it could be that those are the mature feathers and the others need to moult to catch up. The genetics, body type, and feather will determine quality and performance of your birds. Once in every so often I may breed a bird that one of thier tail feather, looks like if two tail feathers wanted to grow together and splits half way down, but in no way does it hinder thier performance...................Later Jef.... The tail doesn't have much influence on the performance as far as the spin is concerned. The lack of a tail may affect the birds manuverability is all. I would not get concern about an odd tail feather or two especially a young bird that has yet to go through a molt.

The tail has allot to do with performance. It is a balancing factor which contribute to the smoothness of the roll and breaking out of the roll. Take you best spinner and pull all the tail feathers out and study it's performance. Just food for thought.
To answer your question Jef, the tail feathers are like a fan shapped that has an outward curve. That is because the body of the bird where the tail feather grows are not strait. The middle feathers appear to be the longest and the rest of the tail feather get tucked underneath them.
