If the loft is dark will the birds tend to fly? Also What do i do if my Birmingham rollers dont want to fly? My Birmingham rollers are Housed with many other breeds, So should i separate them from all other breeds, and separate the males from the females, Because different breeds fly differently. And separate the males from the females so they wouldn't think about breeding, and raising nestlings, and concentrate on flying. And while they are in the dark loft dont feed the birds to much? And keep them in there for a few days, so that they will want to fly? How do you make your birds fly?

You need to find yourself a mentor in your area. You asked a ton of questions that would take a ton of answers.
I would never put multiple breeds in a single loft to begin with. It causes crossbreeding and the off spring will be nothing but a pigeon. If you don't have the space, time, or money to build seperate lofts for each breed then I would recommend choosing a single breed you like the best and start there.
You're not going to teach rollers to fly, kit, and roll out of a loft that has other breeds co-mingling. Even the most experienced of us could not do it nor would we.
You have to decide if you are going to be a collector of pigeons or a breeder of rollers. Make that decision and we will go from there. Get it all sorted out; get focussed; and keep it simple.

None you are going on that you don't want the birds killed but you yourself are a contributor to the problem if you are housing so many different breeds in one loft. If they cross breed they are only food for other animals. you need to get them into pens according to their breed. Rollers do not have to be seperated by sex in order to perform. But rollers will not perform at their top ability unless you take the time and breed best to best. I can't stress enough that you need to get those birds divided into breeds. C.J.

Like Nick and CJ both have stated the first thing that you need to do is decice if you want to raise rollers or just pigeons in general. Do yourself a favor and take a long look at the rollers, They are the most spectacular of all of the performing breeds. They will not do you any good at all unless you cultivate them. What I mean by that is that breeding rollers is not only best to best but also you need to know what you have got and just what will accent each other the best. you can really get alot of enjoyment out of rollers but judging from your article you need to decide first if they are what you want in the first place. If you have nonflying breeds mixed with flying breeds all birds will be overfed and the flying breeds wont fly properly because theyll be too fat. Kevin

Will feeding them Barley for a couple of days make them want to fly, and allow them to loose body weight?
