One quick question??? After the first round, when the young are still in the nestbox with the parents and the second clutch is laid. When do you remove the first nestbowl and the youngster or do you just remove the nestbowl and leave the youngster in the nestbox? Paul

Paul,
Are breeding in individual compartments or an open loft?
I breed from individual compartments and I would remove the first cluch when their tail is about 2". That way I know they know how to pick their food off the ground on their own. I usually have two nest bowls in each compartment. Once they lay eggs in the other bowl and the first cluch removed, then replace the other bowl. Scrape the dried up droppings first then replace the bowl.
When are you gonna stop by?
Jay

Thanks J_Star...Iam breeding in individual compartments. The case Iam talking about the youngster is 3 wks old.The hen laid the next clutch 5/9 & 5/10. And sometines I find the 3 wk old is in the nestbowl with the 2 eggs and the hen or the cockbird. His tail feathers are about 1" long . I'll keep my eyes on the lenght of the tail feathers. Paul

I don't remove the nest bowls until the breeding season is over. When the hen wants to lay again, either she kicks the young ones out of the bowl, or I move them to the floor. Banded 110 rollers in four months so it does work! Brian.

If you have an opened loft you can move the young ones to the bottom at about 18-25 days, if you have a breeding cage then your going to have to wait for a while..
