They say third time lucky, well, flew this new kit of birds a buddy gave me a little while back, for the third time last night.First two flights I gave them from their new home,They were hit by A coopers.Lost 2.Last night decided to wait till 8:40to fly them and see if that darn wasn't sleepin' already.Sunset here is 8:55 these days. They went up and didn't fly out past my neighbours place 2doors down, doing nice circles and rolling pretty good.Ten went up and ten came in before dark. That made me pretty darn happy,I'll tell ya!!If only we can outsmart those bugger preds at least 50% of the time,be laughin'!!Breeders are pumpin' 'em out so maybe we can get ahead here.Still have that one pair in the breeder loft since January, the hen hasn't laid an egg yet.I guess that hen might be heading for the kitbox, trouble is she has never flown out before.

The trick is, not out smart yourself. By flying that late in the day. If the cooper does show up and the birds go up and can't get down befor dark, you'll lose more than one or two birds. Flying rollers is not a simple as it might seem. Good Luck

Yeah, you're not kidding it's not simple.Flew last night 15 min. before sunset and just as they were getting up,two small hawks (Maybe American Kestrel or Sharp Shinned)not big enough to grap a pigeon, started attacking and everything went for a sh-t.A few landed on the loft, and the rest headed for the trees all over the place. All managed to make it in before dark tho'.Just plain lucky, that's all.

Ron,
Your not kidding. I lost almost half my young birds last year in (2) separate hawk related overflies last fall. I was trying to get in a fly after work, they got hit by a Cooper, skied out and would not come down………. The overflies were much worse than only loosing 1 bird to the Hawk.
