Hello All, there is a saying I try to follow and that has served me well: "Seek first to understand, then be understood".

I think it works best and shows good judgment when new guys to the forum show they are trying to understand or do understand the positions and statements made by the long time regulars (who have by the way, helped build this forum one post at a time) and who have also help countless new and struggling fanciers overcome constraints to their program ensuring that they will get more satisfaction from the hobby and stay in it longer or even for a lifetime.

It is helpful when new guys go out of their way to explain their thoughts as this allows the rest of us to get an idea of who you are and what your genuine motives are for joining the site.

Most of us have seen the fly-by-night guys who come and go who make dogmatic statements and going to set the rest of us straight with some new revelation or twist on an old idea. To paraphrase the Bible, "there is nothing new under the sun".

If a person pays attention to the information out there on the Birmingham Roller and is a dedicated fancier, 2 to 5 years is enough to figure this hobby out. Most of us who post regularly have been in it longer than that.

We are always happy when new guys join the forum to discuss all aspects of the Birmingham Roller, we are happier still when it is done with a respectful tone and the kindness of a true gentleman.

Should the tone of some posters continue, I will follow the Posting Policy for removing them which apparently not everyone has read and understood?

Your choice.

Tony, your intervention was timely. I, for one, have been fed up with a few new guys who've spent the last couple of weeks, like they're angry at the world and tanked up on booze every time they post. We have the likes of Nick - a gentlemen indeed - who's having to justify his every word. We have some of the world's most experienced roller men having to argue semantics and justify their stance, with accusations about hurting their egos. It stinks. These new guys are throwing insults here, there and everywhere.

I won't be missed, but I refuse to post anything further until they've gone or sobered up.

Tony, you have a great site for roller talking, I respect you for that...period.

I also, know that you are referring to me, Roller, in your post, even if names weren't mention. I am not smart enough to figure that, but hey this is a roller forum isn't it? Some men in here don't have enough balls to hang in with a certain reality provoking posts by me and others, because all they think is that..... oh anything that strays or is new , old, or different from the main line of thinking that this site has created is wacked. What I am saying is there is more to the roller pigeon than just what goes on in this site. This line of thinking is too narrow!!!!!!!!!Why was your roller talk site created then...You know your motives. period. If I provoke the roller pigeon, and want to dissect it to better understand it's abilities. for other fancier to have a chance to seperate grabage...goldern words of wisdom have been learned from everyones opinions...than why is it that you are so move by it...and lossely point out certain issues which in your views is not relevent. But ultimately, my provoking post has serve a little purpose, like this, You dissagree, another person agree, and yet another don't know, but we all have provoke something, which has cause us to question. But I bet someone learn something.

Personalities Clash...that's just nature's way. Men will fight...for what ever and it has not stop since the dawn of time, at least in this verbage, we are dissecting the bird we love most, our little roller pigeon. Isn't that a move forward?

No questions is a bad qustion, no answeer is the right answer, we just have to move on an on and on.

I have review your site for about two years, before I decided to join, It has always been that some post are great, others you can't hardly understand, some are just out of the ball park, Some are bad and contained grabage, but from the garbage is where we learn. the mistakes is where we learn. Did Brain said that a consensus is a hard thing. I think a consensus is a democratic way of trying to learn more about the roller For example, when certain main issues like body type is discussed, people will learn that a consensus is building. the meat has been thrown to the dogs, it is up to them to dissect it themselves, our own juorney is more impotant than anyones experience. The individual has to expereince for them selves, seperate and fine the NORM. You undertand the law of Average.

If I have offended anyone, well my opolegies to you. At lest either you or I learned someithing from it and that's good enough.

My name wasn't hardball for nothing.
With all respect

I think there are several easy ground rules that eliminate alot of the ass biting that goes on here.
1. Say whatever you want to say in a clear and intelligent manner. No riddles, just the facts.
2. If you can't say it nicely, don't say it.
3. Remember your way of doing things or thinking, isn't necessarily the only way or correct way.
It gets a little old seeing the constant ass biting on this site. Maybe that's what Heine was refering to when he said to spend less time on the computer and more time in the yard.

Hey All, each day has 24 hours, and I don't choose to spend any of them debating the sites posting policies or alienating site regulars of which many have spent countless hours responding to posts in a constructive way attempting to help others improve their knowledge of rollers.

I have to conclude by reading some recent posts that some have chosen to intentionally disregard the posting policy.

DO WE HAVE A PROBLEM?
I am beginning to think the All Roller Talk forum has become a victim of its own success?? When we first setup the forum a few years ago, anyone could post anonymously, we began to have problems with that, then we required that people at least register before they could post, we began having problems with that too, I then setup the registration so that I had to manually approve new members, we are now having problems with that...

I hate to think what we are going to have to do next? Maybe require new members to be personally sponsored by a current forum member in good standing and make the sponsor responsible to regulate his sponsorees??

Require a new member to fill out an application, be interviewed by phone for approval? Any other ideas or thoughts??

Hello Everyone,

First of all, we are all grown ups and we should be able to discuss and ccommunicate ideas, concepts and strategies amongst each other.

I personally like to think on a different angle instead of the same old thing from the past. Nothing on here could hurt my feelings or ego because I enjoy my birds, even though they give me a PITA (Pain In The A...) some times, but they help me relieve so much stress and they never talk back. LOL

My only suggestion to everybody is NOT TO TAKE EVERYTHING SO PERSONAL! Everything on here is an opinion or someone else's ideas, which could help or not help you and our birds.

Instead of us trying to raise Champion Birds maybe we should focus on becoming Champion Fanciers.

Everybody Please Take It Easy

Tony C, thanks for a Great site. I am newcomer to forum posting.I think the forum is the best source of Roller info on the net.It generates valuable discussion and an abundance of information on all phases of raising the roller. The regular contributors are experienced pigeon men and their input is both thought provoking and informative. It's not productive to the site to be confrontational or argumenative.Let's just continue exchanging thoughts without personal attacks. Thanks again to you and the regular posters.

Geez,
How many times will we have to endure a "talking to" from our most beloved benefactor. When he speaks of being a victim of it`s own success , thats a code for " Ease up people! I don`t have to put up with this nonsense and can delete the message board in three minutes and the problem will be solved".

Good post Katyrollers. Those are always good things to be reminded of.
Tony, I wouldn't panic just yet. These things have a way of working themselves out. If the quality of the conversation continues to decline over time, then you may have to take some of the steps that you listed, and they were good ones. I reiterate; the best way way to deal with pointless conversation and topics is to ignore it when it is started. Then it falls by the wayside. Some people are just looking to get a rise out of somebody. Don't fall into that trap, as has been said, by taking it personal. I have made that same mistake myself, in the past, on these lists. Personally, I don't see the point in a semantic discussion about spin vs. roll, or which came first the chicken or the egg. It is simply not going to contribute to helping me raise better quality performers, or increase my production percentages, which is what most of us are looking to learn, no matter what our level of experience is. But that conversation may have value to somebody, so I try not to judge it. So I just skip it. There are a host of topics available on this site. Remember, it is YOUR fingers on the computer keys.YOU have total control over what you read and what you respond to. So use your time wisely. That's my take on it. YITS, Cliff
