Just wondering how many guys are actually on this site that didn't have connections to any of the long time members here before joining this site. What I mean is if this site had of been referral by members in order to get a membership how many us us would actually have known someone on hwere to get a membership? I am not talking about if you were to need a referral now but if you needed one in the beginning. Just interested. C.J.

CJ,
I found this site off the search engine.I read for like a whole 15 minutes before I joined in the fray and became the lovable guy I am now. lol I had message board and chat room experience so I knew what to expect as far as the "trolls" and such. Now I see my role as being a online mentor and answer the same questions I asked when I was a newbie. I know that I am far from a knowledgeable fancier. I am what I call self sufficient. As long as nothing goes wrong for a few years I will be fine. Without this site I would be out in the backyard watching them roll a few here and there not knowing how to feed and train.I didn`t even have a clue of what the NBRC or WC or roller competetion or even a kitbox was. All of the guys who have ever responded to anything on this site have contributed to my qualification in the WC this season. I was out in the hinterland and would have remained there without this site.
Thanks Tony

I don't know anyone here either. I mostly sit back and read it all. I think letting anyone "read" the posts is great but because of the trouble makers it may be wise to require new "posters" to be sponsored. That would require getting to know some of the current members/posters so using names and providing email addresses might a necessity.

I did the same thing, just did a search and found this site... I read a lot more before joining tho. If folks could only join by knowing someone here already, I'm certain I wouldn't have been able to..... not that I'm any help being new to Rollers ( or any kind of pigeon ). I don't know what kinda problems are going on with the membership, but I think, if it were me, I'd give one warning, one suspension and then if the problem occured again... kick their bootys off for good. Okay, Let me state my position very clearly. Most of us are adults. I would hazard a guess that most of us are 40ish+. We are not of the "me" generation and know how to conduct ourselves in public. It takes two to fight. Be an adult. There will be no need for any sponsors. Civility and Peace will reign forever.

CJ, I gotta admit, I found the site through a search engine also, and didn't know a soul when I started visiting the site. However, I have made several friends, here, communicated with them in person, by phone and by private e-mail,swapped and bought birds. That is a value to the site, that needs to be seriously considered, as I am sure Tony is doing. YITS, Cliff

Guys, this is my take. I think before you can join you MUST state your name and give Tony your email address. That way we will know who we are talking to. Plus if someone gets out of hand Tony can email them privatley and give them a warning. I see the trend here when we have problems is when a new group og guys get on start a little trouble and then they disapear. It never seems to really be just one guy the come in twos and threes and have some sort of agenda. I know alot of guys just read and try and learn. There is alot of info here and there are alot of great people here. Just my two cents, Kevin

Keep the ideas coming guys, to quote Fraser Crane "I'm listening". I want to do what is best for the visitors, the regulars and to ensure a professional and dynamic roller site that is able to live up to our mission statement.
I will not over react to the latest troll incursion. It is good we have sooo many good people here to offer ideas.
Let's let the ideas flow through the weekend and next week we'll announce the new process, whatever it is. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Cliff I am not convinced that giving your email and real name is going to help anyone. Tony had the email and phone number of spinnerdom. Tony even went as far to speak to him on the phone. Spinner sounded knowledgeable and said he would behave but he didn't. Every person on here is capable of causing trouble and some of us have in the past made mistakes and said things that later we apologized for but if a person is just nasty they will and do what they want. A person will say one thing to get a membership and then do another. One thing that I have learned through the years of working with people in the education and social services fields. People are way more arogant on the phone and on the computer than in person. People will say things to you on the phone that they won't in person. The reason for this is there is little you can do to strangle a person over the phone or net if they call you out. I personally don't see how having a persons name and email is going to change anything. I still say that having more guys on here as moderators is the way to go. Then the moderators who read the posts everyday have the power to delete posts or edit them. If you clamp down on who is and isn't permitted here then it becomes an old boys club and loses the zest it now has. I think Tony if you ask the guys who have been here if they would moderate you will be over welmed with the response. Hell I am on this darn site even in the middle of the night if it will help to aleviate some of the head aches I would gladly volunteert. I even have some of my students who sit and read the posts with me. But I caution against thinking that limiting who can post here will eliminate your problem. Cory Joseph or as I prefer to be called C.J.
