Tapp, that was Todd from Hawaii, who gave you the info. But, you're right, as a guy from England, I wouldn't have had a clue about those guys!

Hi, Mike, Perhaps another time. I hope your trip goes well. Who's looking after your rollers whilst you're away? Will you fret about them like all decent rollermen?

Are you kidding!!!-Im fretting allready! I have the older kids taking care of them day to day and a guy about 20 min. away checking on them a couple of times to band etc.I built my kit boxes with a center isle that can be opened and slide a cafeteria feeder that holds about 6lbs. of feed and two-2 gal. waterers--the feeder and waterers can be accessed from both sides -so both kitboxs can be maintained from the one opening without opening the main kitbox doors. The doors will be locked wile I am gone and my 100lb Akita will be out.Lord help the man that has bad Ideas about five finger discont birds!LoL!I built the kitboxs this way because I knew I would be going away sometimes for more than a couple days - and I knew the bigest problem with kids taking care of birds (even 28 yr olds) is leaving the doors open.--So I made a way that even forgetfull kids could feed and water without ever even seeing the birds or having accsess to the kitboxs. They could even be SO forgetfull as to not even remember they are there and the birds would have enough food and water for over a week. Though I have assured them If they forget my birds it could cost them an arm or mybe even a leg LOL.Other than getting really fat and sassy wile I am gone they should be OK.As for the breeding loft its set up with 12lb. cafeteria feeders and 5gal. of water. But they do have to open the doors for that so I am alittle nervious but they could forget all about them for a week also and they would do OK.I am having my cell phone switched over to international calling so they wont be forgetting. Now does that sound paraniod and fretfull enough for you LOL! Well, I'm glad you're as bad as me, Mike. I left my birds with my petfood guy last summer. I'd no sooner gone to my house in France for a couple of weeks, when I got the call from his wife to say he was standing outside my loft with a few birds having escaped. So, it clearly hadn't made a blind bit of difference my telling him to watch what he was doing whilst changing food and water - and he's a very intelligent guy, who's well accustomed to tending all manner of animals.
Anyhow, despite his mistake, I was fortunate in that he'd mucked up with the flying loft and not the breeding loft (with birds which had never, ever been out). Nevertheless, the birds which escaped over his head, were in no hurry to come back in - after all, they'd had a ton of food in front of them. So, as I ran up a big mobile phone bill from France, I asked my keeper, which of the remaining escapees were reluctant to come back in - like, give me a description. He replied: "Well, one's a sort of a grey/brown/red/white thing with spots on it". Yeah, very helpful.
As it transpired, he had to come back hours later, when they were hanging on the wire fronts, wanting their perches for the night, before he could get them back in. Needless to say, every time I go away, I still have the same worries.
I hope I'm not worrying you, Mike...

No-No your not worrying me-I am now looking for some kind of robotic back up feed and water thing-a-ma-gig. or triple back up people ,You know-- one to check on the other that checks on the next one who calls me on the hour and then rotate that one out (Esp. if he's just stupid) and rotate another one in and putting a bar code on all of them to monitor their movements in and out of the loft as I sight see with my laptop straped on the front of me checking there movements on the half hour.OH I almost forgot the water quality satellite beamed crap in the water tester, that will tell me if my tripple back up food and water guys havent changed the water --that is-- I will know in a nanno sec. if the guys I picked are a complete waist of skin or not .LOL LOL!!!
