OK -today I was alittle leary of letting my birds out it was pretty windy--yesterday it was definitely too windy 30-40 mile winds but today it was about 10 -20 mile winds with some gusts exceeding that. well I let them out and they would get blown out of sight for a couple of hair pulling min. and come back.they flew low and only for about 15 min. I actully thought they showed the most action they have ever shown me (Fluttering and single flips) than they ever have as they are very young.what I wanted to know is your opinions about windy days--some guys say kick them out--they need to be able to fly in wind esp. if you are on a comp. fly day and you have a windy day and you have never flown them in any kind of wind--they will do poorly or worse GONE Others say never risk It--others say its kind of a natural selection--those that cant handle the wind will be blown away those that can will breed more that can. What is your cutoff for windspeed wind direction etc.I can say I was happy they all made it today and I was relieved when they traped. But not sure If I was just foolish and lucky or giving my birds some good training ????

Hay! Fr. mike i'll tell you a story back in 1996 i flown a team of 25 of hold over bird's,that day we had a club fly that day was very windy 30 to 40 miles winds one member lost all his birds good ones to. so when it was my turn to fly i just said a prayer and open the kit box well they all got blown away ,they all came back 2hrs later. But i did this out of respectability, for myself. But never again because last year i lost 2 teams that way, if 10 to 15 miles winds than ok they fly but if winds blow west out here in chino ca, no way. there's all ways the next day to fly.

I dont like when it is windy the birds rather fly low and that is not what I would like my birds to do,some may try to roll and ,bang they bump. So I would rather save them for another day thats not as windy, just my thought.

Mike,
Living in the panhandle of Texas, I set my limit at 17-20 with gusts 25 to 27,depending.They aren`t really good but they are active when the wind is blowing. They like having something to push against.

i remeber flying my birds in a windy day, my birds just flew away with the wind. i thought they were not going to return, but after a few days later, i saw them in the sky, damn i was so happy. i dont think you should fly birds in a windy day because they could hit houses, one of my birds hit the houses and alomst kill itself.

Fr. Mike,

I don't think anything positive will be gained by flying your birds in 30-40 mile winds. Sure, they need some exposure to winds for possible windy comp days, but if there were those kind of winds on comp day, I would not fly my A team. Very young birds should never be flown in high winds in my opinion. They are not physically ready for it. When they are a little stronger on their wings, I would fly them occasionally with slower winds (10-15). Many bad habits are formed and cotastrophies occur from flying our birds in high winds. What good does it do flying them in the high winds. They certainly can't perform normally in these conditions. My birds rest on very windy days! Just my thoughts.

some of my birds tend to learn how to connect during a windy day, but I think they are just crazy.... I tell you that sometimes one of my 2 monthers roll down on a windy day, but that is me tho...
