Well here goes....I have a hen that had the first round ok. But the second round she laid 2 eggs at the normal time space but about a week and a half laid 2 more eggs in the same nest. Now thier are 4 eggs. Is this the sign of a bad hen. Its the first breeding for her and the cockbird. What do I do, if anything??? Any suggestions?? Paul

Sounds like Tapp is right. Two hens will both lay if paired up. You will know if the eggs dont hatch. Or hold the eggs up to a light at night and you should see blood viens and a dark spot in the egg if it is fertile. After one week or 10 days check them for blood viens. Your eggs should hatch in 21 days I think, that is if they are good and fertile. Good luck Bill

Another thing it could be is if the hen got jumped by anothe rcock. That will cause her to lay again that soon. Question we should ask is if you are breeding in a colony or individual pen? That will help find out what happened. Not sure if it would be two hens laying that far apart since you said it is the pairs second round. Kevin

Newflyer, I have a pair alone in an individual breeding pen,and after raising two rounds, the hen laid two eggs and a week later laid two more in the same nest! I just waited until two hatched and discarded the other two. The squeakers are ready to wean at this point. Good luck! YITS, Cliff

Heh cliff I bought a pair of runts and afew days ago they layed four eggs in four days. I'm going to candel them in a few days. They were from a open loft of runts. Maybe they got bread by a cock there and maybe they will be fertile. It's a long shot oh well. I got to get a cock now! ---------- Tapp

tapp, I shoulda candled the two that I tossed. I wonder now if they were fertile. I didn't know that was even possible for them to fertile another round that quickly. YITS, Cliff

Hey guys thanks for all your input. No, they are a hen and a cock for sure. I did have them in individual breeding pens. After all 3 pairs had their first round I let all 3 pairs have full run of the breeding pen. Their is a good possiblity that she did get jumper, being with 2 other pairs lose in the breeding pen. I will check the eggs by candel light and throw away the 2 eggs that dont hatch. And thanks once again for all advice. Paul
