Well I just got home from work this evening and headed out to my loft to get all the birds fed and watered. Checked my pairs and guess what….My very first Roller was born today!!!!!! WooHooo!!!!

I really need to say thanks to Paul Fullerton and Mort Emami w/o those two guys helping me out and getting me started with really great birds I’d probably just have drifted away like a lot of people have from this hobby. I can’t begin to tell you what lengths these guys went to to get birds to me. But it was worth it all. Now if the other 6 hatch out by the end of the week I’ll really be stoked! :D

Thanks again Paul & Mort!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Matt! There is nothing like the feeling of that first hatch....and you will re-live it every spring! And then there's the first flip, and the first spin, and the first good kit, the first competition....It's good to see you got such a good start with quality birds. If I know Paul, he'll take good care of you! (...don't know Mort, but have only heard good things about him.) Good luck!

I am waiting for a cigar! LOL!! Congrats on the new hatches...Just like Cliff said....there is nothing like the first...well except...you know...LOL!!! I too am living that feeling all over again...with the two pair that I got from Mort....Usually it is the excitement of putting a new pair together....but those are already on the second round..LOL!! Matt...you better start building a kit box...they grow up fast.

Just remember...in rollers there are all the good things that are a first time....then there is the first hawk attack...first overfly...first roll down....first accidental crash that wacks your best bird...your first choke in comp....and your FIRST TASTE OF CROW>>>>>YUM>>>>>there will be times when your birds make you eat lots of crow>>LOL!!

rock and ROLL

Congrats Outlaw,
Paul is right. Lotsa firsts yet to come.I seem to forget between seasons just how small and fragile the newly hatched chicks are. I can`t help but give out a little "awww look at the baby" when I hatch my first one each season. Ther I go into the house and announce "We Got Dots!"(little yellow dots=chicks)Which is always followed by "I wanna see! I wanna see!" from my daughters. We held a dot once just to see how tiny he was.We don`t do that anymore. I am scared to try to pick them up.

I usually wait four or five days before I handle them. I check them over for obvious defects. Check for beak color and now for beak size. Thanks Mount Airy. I know exactly what you`re talking about and never thought of it.

yits good luck and good night

Yup you guys are all right...LOTS!! of firsts yet to come. But the important part is the little guy made it through the night and now has a sibling to keep him company. Went out this morning and found the other egg had hatched sometime last night. So we have two little yellow "Dots" (as Vel would say)

Paul...the Cigar is on its way to you, you should get it monday or Tuesday ;) And you'll be happy to know the Kit boxes got started last night. The base is built, but after our chat last night I need to rework the interior deminsions of the boxes to allow for a larger young bird box. Hopefully I'll get it finished up this weekend and painted. I told my wife the planting and beds around the house would have to wait till I got this done. I got the usual death glare from her, but after she saw the newly hatched bird she understood. Infact I think her exact words were "Awwwww...its so cute" LOL.

hehe...is it to early to sign up for next years world cup ;)

Maybe so, Matt, but I like the way you're thinkin'! The more you (and your family) participate, the more you learn and the more enjoyment you'll get out of the hobby.
