yea I have been raising my birmingham rollers for a year or 2 now.. I was just wondering, how do they fly their competitions and get them to land? I understand about the scoring part but I'm just confused on the how they come back home part..

The comps are flown at the flyer's house. They land whenever they are tuckered out.

Hey there Parlour!!
Myself,I've never flown competition as I've just started with rollers this year. But,,,from what I've gathered is true is the kit is judged for a certain time period shortly after the beginning of the fly.I think you're allowed some kind of time out for pred attacks or something not sure.Hey Brian,,where can a guy find all these regs about the world cup fly or some explanation of what the birds are supposed to be able to perform? Some website you could put us onto??
Health to the birds,
Kel.

Ok Guys,
In a nutshell. This is the STUFF YOU JUST GOTTA DO.
It is your house, your turn and you are in charge for twenty minutes. Be assertive. Appoint an "official" score keeper and/or timekeeper. If you have some buds over, there ya go.

*personal note,I would always have another rollerman there as a witness just in case there is a discrepency.
In military terms C.Y.A.*

Count the birds with the judge before you let em out.
Show the judge where to observe from.

When you open the door and shoo the birds out, time starts when the LAST bird leaves the kitbox. If you need to,catch one and hold him just inside the box, call out "Last bird!"then turn him loose right at your waist. From there you have five minutes to call time in,but you have to tell the judge you are gonna take the five minutes BEFORE you let em out. Any time during the five you can call time in. What you`re looking for is the second just BEFORE the first big break to call time in.

At any time during time in you can call ONE five minute time out due to: wind, interference from a "foreign" pigeon,a pred attack or act of God. One out scores, two out does not. Two early landers and you DQ. 15 minutes of running time after the initial five minutes you will be a lock and can`t DQ.

Unless the judge is just a peckerhead he will coach you through the first one. Stand next to the judge, be quiet and listen.

IF I am wrong on any count, feel free to correct me I have exactly two flys under my belt.

yits and good luck

Kenny, a foreign pigeon joining the kit does not constitute a time out. If the bird is distinguishable then there is no action taken at all. If the bird appears to be a roller (judge's descretion) then one point will be deducted from every scoreable break. A person will lose a whole of 5's from circumstances like this, but a time out is not meant to be used if a commie joins the kit.

Thats what I meant. Was just giving the readers digest version.
I think the term foreign came from the NBRC rules. If it is a true foreign pigeon it will affect the kit performance and a time out should be allowed and taken.
If one of your own gets out, shame on you.

That would be incorrect Kenny. If a commie, duck, finch or whatever flys through or joins the kit, a time out is not warranted. A time out is for weather and predator related instances. If another bird of any variety joins your kit, regardless of whether it makes the kit more active, go stiff or break up, the time out rule does not apply. I'm sure some judge somewhere has allowed a time out in such an instance, and that would be abusing the rule.
Brian.

I would also like to add that when you fly in a local club you can use whatever rules you decide on. Kevin

Must`ve been the predator attack I was thinking, thanks for the clarification.

Hey Naylor, hows it going bro? Hows the birds?

I was three eggs shy of a full round. 22 at full.Banded three birds for a mentor program I am in. Gonna send 13 birds in a few weeks and get my guy flying.Got two more chicks from an experimental pairing. I had one chick from this pair earlier this season and she crashed in the wind and lost an eye. Flips nice and tight just real shallow. 3 feet bout 5-6 spins.
