I have been reading all your posts and you all sound very experienced, what do think about flying after work around 6:00 pm, I go into work around 6:30am so no time in the morning... is it ok to leave them without food all day to fly and feed them after work?
I hope so because I haven't had a hawk attack in the evening yet (knock on wood), only in the mornings...thanks

Brian! make sure you hold back there water, and there feed for 24 hrs, clock them in at 30 to 45 min's of fly time be sure to keep them on the hungry side, the first sign of birds of prey, hopefully later this summer change your fly time, good luck.

Hey,

I fly my young birds in the morning and the evening until they come into the roll. On the days that I have to work...I will let them out before I leave put the food in and when they trap...the wife will close the trap. In the evening I will fly them as soon as it cools off..about 7pm or so. I just give the birds a 1/2 ration in the morning and a 1/2 ration in the evening. Then after about 4 or 5 days of twice a day flying....fly them just in the morning for a couple of days and feed them the full ration. Once they come into the roll...and I mean rolling pretty good..I will fly them every other day. Hope this helps...it is ok to fly the young birds before you go to work...as long as you have somebody to close the trap for you.

Whenever you have the time. There is no set time for anyone. I personally fly them any time I get a chance. You need to just make sure you train them to come in. Keep them hungry.

Some guys would not chance flying their old bird team late in the evening but young birds tend not to go that high and fly that long...
If after 6 is your only option, go for it.
I know some guys have trainned their birds to fly at night as well so do what you must to get in the air time.
Keep them flying,
Thor

Brian, I am on the East coast also (N.J.), and I fly evenings also. This time of year I rarely get hawk attacks in the evening. If I fly early morning which works well for others, I am more likely to have a hawk attack. The problem with evening flying is that if you do get a hawk attack birds may go into an overfly. Once the hawk migration starts (if I keep flying late starters) I switch to late afternoon flying. This gives the birds enough time to find their way home if they've been chased off by hawks.
