jammer,

e-mail me at paulfullerton@sbcglobal.net and I will send you some photos of the inside and outside of my kit boxes. Just to give you an idea. Most fliers use box perches or "V" perches. I prefer the V perches because they seem to be a little cleaner then box perches. I satarted with box perches. In reality it is to each his own! Anyway...shoot me an e-mail and I will send you some photos.

hi i really do thank you guys for your help i would much rather ask then to go 3 steps forward and take 5 steps back now one more thing im taking it that when you fly your rollers it would be somewhat like flying homers i know the rollers stay right close but would you use droppers to make them come in faster or ? i have frills blondinetts satinetts and other breeds to use if needed just thought i would ask

thanks for all your help

You really don't need droppers at all. You need to fly your rollers on the hungry side. Not too hungry. They will do their time flying around from half hour to an hour and a half or longer depending on how much you feed them. To cut their flight time, cut their feed down slowly everyday to get the flight time you require from them. Never cut their feed too drastically, it is not wise.

My birds in the summer time require less than a cup per 10 birds. Also toward the end of summer it is moulting season and the birds will require somewhat different feed and less flying. Good luck.

Here's a few pics of the Kit box(and inside of the A team box) I finished up a few weeks ago. One unit 8'long by 3'deep, divided into 3 boxes two are 30" wide by 36" deep and will hold 22 birds. The third for my young birds is 36" by 36" and will hold 34 birds.

Nice pics you guys. One suggestion is to apply a couple coats of exterior water based solid colour stain inside and outside those kitboxes before putting birds in.Bacteria and stains don't penetrate the wood, and pressure washing is alot easier.I paint all surfaces while in assembly so all the cracks and edges get sealed up.

Kelly,

Yes I still have some work left to do on the Kit boxes. The outside needs stained, and edges calked. Plus I need to place some lattice along the base to keep my pointers out from under the Kit boxes. I also need to weed the bed its in, mulch it and lay down a stone pathway infont of the box and leading up to it. Defiantly not finished but thought it would give others some ideas for when they build theirs.

Hey Matt,
Those are some nice looking kitboxes kinda looks the ones I built. I also visited your website and it is very good looking too. You are miles ahead of yourself already with the birds. One of these days I will have to stop in and pay ya a visit. I am usually in the columbus area about 2 to 3 times a month. Now if I get called out of 683 local I'll be up there all the time LOL LOL. I work a lot out of 683. Worked on the broad street schools, nationwide arena, batell etc etc...
How are the birds doing that you received a while back? got any young out of them yet?
Hey man take care and best of luck with the birds.
Your good friend

Brian,

Yup I’ve come a long, long way since this spring in large part due to Paul’s help, guidance and generosity! Currently only have three in the kit box that I’m trap training and getting ready to place on the top of the kit box. But I have another on the floor of the breeder loft that will be ready to join these three next week. The birds that I got a while back now are all doing well; while they took a round about way of getting here…they did make it. Currently working with three breeding pairs and a foster set(Campbell/Cowell pair from Paul, a Emami pair from Mort, the third pair is a little red grizzle hen from Mort paired with a cock from Paul’s baldy pair.) All of them are sitting eggs right now, infact I had 4 hatch out last night and have 4 more due to hatch out next Friday. I doubt I’ll have enough birds together for the Fall fly, but with Paul’s help I should have more than enough this next spring for a try at World Cup. Like I told Paul last night, heck of a way to get my feet wet in roller competition.

Glad you had a chance to stop by the website, I’m still working on putting more info on it, more pics of the breeding pairs, and kit box pics, but for the most part I was happy enough with it to post it for the public to see. You’re more than welcome to come on out anytime to take a look at the birds or watch them fly. Shoot me and e-mail mrogers1@insight.rr.com and I’ll send you my number. Doesn’t take much to convince me to head out back with a couple beers, watch the birds fly and talk rollers. ;)

Nice site Matt. Paul has been a ton of help for me also. We talk by phone occasionally so I can pick his brain. He's a real student of the birds and the sport of flying them competitively and has many interesting insights. I started with birds from Ivan Hanchett last November so I'm fairly new to rollers. I recently aquired 6 Ruby Rollers also which I plan to breed next year.

Darin and Matt,

Thanks for the compliments...but I am only doing what was done for me from Scott C, Chuck Roe, Mort Emami and Tony...I always say...just pay it forward...just do not make the mistake of paying it forward...until you are set up yourself and have enough birds to pay it forward.

Darin...The little problem you were having with your kit birds....did the rest help. I never heard back from you. I hope it did help.

rock and ROLL

Paul
