HELLO JAY No i don't think so because I have some Hardesty birds,I bought four birds 05's out of the air and was told they were Harder or Harter Davis.Didn't know if it might possibly be Russ Harter from over around Akron.Had some of his birds back in the 80's.The guy i bought them from didn't have much more information than that. ---------- Ron

Ron - The Russ Harter birds are a very old strain in this country. I am almost certain that they go back to Richard Krupke's birds. Richard Krupke had rollers before Bill Pensom was born which was in 1904. Krupke also lived in the Akron area. I do not remember the individuals first name but his last name is Davis and he recieved birds from Russ Harter.

Nick - Thank you for the compliment. I always like to tell the real truth without skewed data. Nick, what family of birds to you raise? Also, Ron do not let people tell you that this is an old family etc. The birds you have are good just work with them. I have the Pensom family but, I would never discredit other great families of Birminghams.
P.S Krupke was around 100 when he died.

Doc,
The family I have is made up form Norwood; Hatcher; Plona; Smith; and Werstler/Booker. I have recently moved from California to Arkansas and for some reason the move has really adversly affected my kit birds. I felt I had a good thing going on at one time, but now I would have a hard time scoring in competition. I am getting SOME action, but it is waterfall activity It may just be some conditioning issues plus I had a devastating over fly that may have changed the leadership, but I am trying to work them out. I want to compet in this falls NBRC Fly and I got aways to go.
What families do you fly or is it your own family?

Rich - I am not sure if he had any Davis blood. He could have. But he mentioned to me that there was some Schrieber, Winbegler,Houghton, Eddie Scott and some 514 blood from Lavin. Currently, he is in Oklahoma and I have not heard anything from him in the last three years.

I seen this by checking out the other post Leonard Kahute was the one who won the California Classic one year and gave a young bird off the same pair to Dennis Godair the next year which Dennis won the following year. Leonard Kahute told me verbaly over the phone when he sent me a pair of the same family. Those are Bill Shrieber's 300 Line.

I know for sure Kahute won the Classic with a little red check hen.. I flew the classic birds that year.. She was a nice little roller.. I kept records everyday I flew the birds,, Listed what I felt were the top 10 birds each day.. There were many birds that could roll as wellven better on some days.. she won on consistancy.. She came to the roll at 4 months and rolled well almost every time she was flown.. She rarely wasn't on the mention card all year.. 20 to 30 foot and a work horse.. Just for the record.. I agree with Nick.Doc you really seem to be up on Roller history.I think it would be of great interest to myself and other fanciers if you could give us your opinion of Bill Pensom. I would like to know how he bred his strain in such a large volume.Pensoms swept North America by storm. They were quality spinners and other fanciers seemed eager to pass them on to new converts of the family.I understand he got out of rollers a few times, but always came back with gusto.
