Tony,
your last post was spot on.. Another way of saying it is.. A fool has to do all the bad things others have proven over and over to be the hard road and a waste of years that creates tons of culls.. He can't hear the years of experience and must try every fool hardy thing for him self..

The smart man may try a time or two to buck the truth, but he learns from his mistake and listens to wisdom in the future..

The Wise man listens and learns from the mistakes of others without having to waste his time, money and birds.. He moves forward from what others have learned. Saving his time, money and efforts..

Most fall some where between the Smart man and the wise man in the end. (Edited By Moderator: See Posting Policy) Then there just is no HOPE!! You will spend your time breeding roll downs, Cross breds for color and anything else that goes against common since for making better rollers.. LMAO Question for each of us is, What are you? The Wise man, smart man or a fool?? Mongrel Lofts

PS. I wanted to add.. This is just looking at Breeding for the best rollers one can. Not from a back yard just playing around with keeping rollers..

I believe in wisdom. Always have and always will. Wisdom tells me that each has his own. Wisdom tells me that calling a group (Edited by J_Star) is provoking for conflict, name calling and degrading. Wisdom tells me that we should respect others so that we can be respected. Wisdom tells me that we should not play in their turf if they are not playing on ours. Wisdom tells me that we should put this crap behind us and stop instigating and adding fuel to the fire just to get a thrill. Wisdom tells me if this to continue it will become us vs. them and any wise man should not tolerate that. Wisdom tells me that they are just frigging pigeons. That is what wisdom tells me Ken. Please let us move on and away from this nonsense my friend. It is the wisest thing to do.

The problem is everybody who is in the roller hobby is playing on the same turf......so I beleive the color breeder who is monkeying with the roller by bringing in other breeds are on the same turf as those who are working at improving the roller. Wisdom tells me that we cannot do a damn thing about it. Our only recourse is to spread the seeds in hopes that some of those seeds take purchase in good soil.

We all have to spread the seeds and not just hide in our backyards and then give everyone credence; even those who are poluteing the breed. There are just some that are loosing patience(I won't mention any names, but one lives in Utah and other lives in California - LOL)and then there are those that don't give a rats ass. Believe it or not I believe it is the ones who don't give a rats ass less that are hurting us the most. Just a few months ago I believed the roller world was big enough for all of us; now I am not for sure and I am having more doubts about it all of the time.

I want to be the WISE man and there are moments I think I am. I was a FOOL about 30 to 35 years ago and clear up until 15 years ago. But, even recently I would only consider myself a SMART man from time to time.

Paul Fullerton hit on this same topic in a thread of his. We got to listen and listen to many so you can find that common stream of things that comes through from these many breeders and jump in that stream - be the WISE man.

Nick

PS - I have found in my fairly long life that the following statements are TRUE:

1. I don't believe everything I say or think.
2. People who have no brains cannot change thier minds.
3. Life is too short to make love to an ugly woman.

But, then again I only believe half of what I say(LOL)

LOL///As for the ugly woman...beauty is only skin deep....you skin her and then I will take her...now that is ugly...LOL!!

I agree with all the above...that is what my most recent post were all about. Trying to keep the stream flowing in one direction so that the newbie can jump right in. That stream needs to stay straight for quite a while so that the newbie learns to swim....then the stream can open up to other branches and the newbie can take the whatever fork in the stream that he or she chooses....the bad thing is ...that some of these streams are not the way you want to go and you will end up hitting a dam....then you are in a lake of B.S. and you hope the gates on that dam open up so you can swim your ass back to the "Main stream".

I am glad that I have met the people that I have met to keep me in the main stream so that I an move forward. I really do not think that midgets can swim very well especially if they have the reefer going on...back when I was a young man...if I some reefer...and jumped in the water...I would drown for sure....LOL!!! Anyway...that is all I have to say about that...just keep it real for the newbies and always remember what it was like when you were a newbie and how much information you had to suck up from every direction. DON"T FORGET HOW IT WAS WHEN YOU STARTED!!! That is my philosophy at the F.D. When I was promoted to Captain...I had to paint my helmet RED...from Black..Captains wear red and firefighters wear black...but when I painted my helmet I left the front of the helmet black...just so I would remember that underneath the red is black and I will not forget what it was like when I was just a firefighter rank.

I disagree Jay , it must be brought up for the new flyers to the sport to learn from, some will be headed down the right path while others will remane forever lost.
Same with breeding from culls such as rolldowns, the goal is to breed hard rolling stable birds with depth,
Not birds out of control.
Put a rolldown in a showcage and study it, then put a hard rolling stable bird next to it.
If you can't see the difference and see why you shouldn't breed out of a rolldown , well then you will breed many culls and the conversation is over as you just don't get it.

Great post Kenny. Now, I would like to think that when one first start out in the roller fancy--it is that way shouldn't it?. First starting with the fool, the smart man, and last the wise man.

I say that the fool missed the point.
The wise man is too nieve and overconfidence.
The smart man is the ideal.

You know people are going to do as they please. Its there time and money so its there business. There is going to be people with different opinion every step of the way. So why not let them do as they see fit!

You say what about the beginner? well if there anything like the rest of us and they too will visit other sites and lurk and talk. They will have there own opinion on the subjects. They will take the road as they please. But whatever they choose to do be there to help them out. We/Hobby don't need to be split, we all have the same interest. And it would be a shame if either side would step down. We all have something to share with everyone.

But for a grown man to poke fun of another on a public forum....... well I don't need to go to there level. But as some of you will probably post offensive replies to this just remember! there is others reading this and not replying. But its there own back yard and they will keep doing as they see fit. Last time I looked at this forum title it says "All Roller Talk Forum" no where does it say color, extremeist, puriest, or even birmingham.

I have respect for you all and I hope to have the same from you!

Best of luck this fall

Nick,
Same here buddy I have a boat load of respect for you to. Hey I have a bunch of friends in this hobby. And some of those friends have color birds or color projects. From Ellis McDonald of Alabama, Joe Roe and John Bender of Ohio, David Strait of Pa. and so many more. I also have some very good friends with some of the puriest Birmingham rollers like Kenny Billings of Idaho, Scott Campbell of Ca. Dave Szabatura of N.Y. And so many that it would take a california phone book to post them all.

So what I'm getting at here is they are all roller fanciers. They all have something to contribute to the hobby. And each and everyone of them have something special about what they do..

I wouldn't trade any of them for another. But I would like to see them talk to one another and discuss different conditioning methods and tips on getting the most out of there birds. Could you just think what a list it would be for all of this to happen?

Hey Nick best of luck with the birds.
Your good friend Brian Middaugh

Hi Brian/Jay/David and who ever I may have left out,
You guys are right of course.. It is not right to make fun of Reefer Reeking Midgets.. That is kind of like fixing the special Olympic's.. Or trying to take a job at McDonalds from a down syndrome person.. I mean what was I thinking!! So to all you Reefer Reeking Midgets out there, and you know who you are.. Please find it in your little THC filled lungs and brains to forgive me.. You guys are right, breeding from roll downs, stocking young from them roll downs at 4 months old and selling anything with feathers on it, Is a great thing for Reefer Reeking Midgets.. You little fellers go on and getter done!!
Now to all the rest of us who don't consider ourselves insulted By, or being called a Reefer Reeking Midget, Well we are going to have to hold ourselves to a little higher standard.. We can tell each other its not good to Breed from roll downs and stock the young at 3 and 4 months old.. We are going to have tell each other to stock the best birds you can breed and try to make more just like the best you have and have seen.. Don't waste your time on breeding non kitters, roll downs, Chronic Bumpers and the long list of faults found in the roller.. Now I don't want anyone insulted.. I'm not talking to the Reefer Reeking Midgets, they get an exemption.. Is it OK to tell everyone else in the Breed those things are wrong, and the later is correct, as long as I don't apply it to the Reefer Reeking Midgets of course.. I mean is it ok to direct or advise the rest of the men in this breed in the ways most have found to be correct? Or are we so politically correct that we can't speak Truth or give sound advice, due to the fact the Truth might offend some Minority Reefer Reeking Midget???? Man this sport sure does mirror life in many ways.. Just my Opinion.. Mongrel Lofts

Scott, Kenny and all,

There is a fine line that we all have to adhere to where preaching for a good cause becomes nothing more but an annoying background noise.

It is a personal choice of how you folks decide to preach, but your choice is flawed in my opinion and only leads one to believe that it is a vendetta that you folks have to a group of individuals and using the forums to wage unnecessary wars of words. The roller community is better served united rather than divided. Belittling an individual, group or an entity will only generate a similar response and will drive your cause nowhere by taking all the attention to the ugly dog fight.

Hey Mongrel!!
Would you mind cutting your comments about people that may like to smoke the chronic. And talking about midgets in a derogatory tone is becoming most annoying.People that have been afflickted with Dwarfism, are most unfortunate,so why would you want to degrade them??Also marijuana has been proven to help many folks with chronic diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, back troubles to name only a couple. Some folks prefer to support the pharmiceutical companies who make millions of $.Others are happy to support the small farmer.US jails are full of people who have done nothing criminal, except smoke a herb.It would be nice if the namecalling on this site would end,and we could keep to talking about birds!!!!
Kind regards,
Kelly.

Hey Scott, I have people close to me who could be considered potheads and I see how it has made thier lives (by thier choice) more difficult, but not just theirs, I am the one who hurts for them at the loss to life and happiness that chronic pot smoking has. I see the way with every puff, their soul is sucked away little by little and they have no clue.

So for my sake and those in my position, how about we leave the references to it off this site? Thanks.

Hey Scott, I see what you mean. I guess when we poke fun at what is ultimately a very serious matter, there are those who suffer "collateral" damage from it due to other life experiences.

Hey Ken, I can and do laugh, especially at your above post! LOL Yes, it is good to laugh, it takes the edge off life. But I think there is a difference between laughing WITH someone and laughing AT someone? If someone is insulted, it is incumbent on the one doing the perceived insulting to explain it (maybe apologize?)and allow the insulted one the chance to forgive.

I guess something is funny as long as its someone elses Ox being gored? LOL

Hi Tony,
I get your point but all good humor has a bit of truth in it or it wouldn't be funny.. It wouldn't gore anyone if they couldn't apply the contents in some twisted little mannor to what they think.. I mean could you find yourself in anyway in that title, Reefer Reeking Midget? Me either.. LOL I will leave this one alone,,
On a lighter note Tony.. I heard my old friend Ray Sanchez came for a vistit the other day.. Ray was the first guy I met that was a big time pigeon guy.. That was back in the second grade.. Ray told me he seen some nice individuals in your young bird team. I plan to pay Ray visit and I will see if he won't bring me by to see some birds when that happens.. Tell Ray I said hi next time you see him,, Mongrel lofts

Hi Guys,
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about things but this website is devoted to pigeons, right???At least I was hoping it was!Let's try to NOT insult one another as it seems to bring on more and more of the same shit.I don't think it will hurt anyone else who uses this site if someone else who posts here uses pot,or viagra,or heart pills or beer or drinks pee for that matter.Do what you want with your life if you're not hurting other folks.
Peace,Love and Beads,
Kel.

Richard,
Laughing is the BEST medicine there is!!It creates endorfins in our systems which make us all feel good. When I see a good break in my kit when they are just getting up there,it makes me laugh which in turn makes me feel good.Guess that is a good reason to have Roller pigeons,eh!?
