Hey All, to follow the lead setup by Brian aka Rollerpigeon1963 on another thread:

What is 1 conditioning tip or general tip you could offer to improve:

* Kit Performance
* A Kit Bird That Accidentally Bumped
* Breeding Program/Selecting Breeders
* Feeding Breeders
* Selecting Pairs
* Record Keeping

Respond to as many as you want.

* Kit Performance:
Remove the non-kitters, stiffs and birds which roll at the back of the kit and most assuredly in the very near future, your kit's performance will improve.

* A Kit Bird That Accidentally Bumped:
Feed it up and rest it for a week. If it is hurt, make sure the injury is healed BEFORE reflying it.

* Breeding Program/Selecting Breeders:
Use your instincts. Choose and pair the ones that meet your requirements or are closer to what you want to achieve. Be prepared to live with your decisions and make adjustments because you will need to adjust.

* Feeding Breeders
Give them as much as they want. Make sure there is plenty of protien (14-18 percent). Plenty of grit and oystershell. Water all the time. Vits and minerals several times a month. Nature will take care of the rest.

* Selecting Pairs
1 + 1 doesn't equal 2. You will have more success picking mates that compliment each other while hoping to get a blend of the two over putting two birds together you hope will correct a problem or make them better.

* Record Keeping
No excuse not to. It is simple and very effective to gain knownledge of what your breeding pairs are capable of as well as the stages of developement of the young should you choose to note those events as well. I keep a loft journal in my kit box loft which every day I record what things were done to and how the A team performed or if they were flown at all. What they were fed. Any other notables. This is done every day which has given me clues as to how to better set up my kits. Diaries aren't just for little girls. Every successful roller guy keeps notes.

Brian.

I pretty much agree with what Bmac said. For record keeping I tried something a little different this season. My bank gave me a huge calendar almost like a desk calendar. I hung it on the wall along with a pencil. Everything is right there for easy reference and at a glance I can see when the most activity occurred during the month. I transcribe at the end of the month.

If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?
