I had the pleasure and wonderful opportunity to meet Ken (KGB a.k.a. Mongrel Lofts) and Brenda this weekend and spend quite a few hours with Ken. What class acts! I got to watch birds fly and see some excellent, world-class spinners. No question that Brenda is every bit as passionate about the birds as Ken. I also got the chance to pick Ken's brain and learn about the history behind his family of birds and learned a little about what he does that makes him so successful. He thoughtfully answered all my questions and I had a ton of them.

Ken & Brenda, thanks for taking the time, allowing me to see exceptional birds, for the cold diet Pepsi, and for letting me pick you brain.

Your Friend,

Darin

P.S. - That's one heck of a bird dog you have there! LOL!

I have never personally met Kenny, but I can tell by his correspondance in this site and the things that people I know say about him that it would probably be a ball in the same room with him............I believe he would be welcomed in my kitchen.

Hi Laron,
Well, yea and no.. LOL Borges and Kiser lines both are in my birds for sure.. As a matter of fact, Kiser was up here to visit a couple years ago and we traded some birds.. One of those cocks was an old 92-#1290 black self cock.. He is still filling two eggs and never misses.. I have made some great little birds off that cock and he has turned out to be a jewel..
To get back to your question do I still have Borges and Kiser birds.. What my birds are, are a blend from several sources, Doug and Dan Ouelette, A cock bird Dave Sanchez bred off a pair he bought from Herb Sparks, CRS-80-# 90. A cock off HCS-77-#2266 x HCS-77- #2231, Ron Moden bought that Sparks pair from Chan Grover I believe.. Robert Krenz had the pair borrowed from Chan at one time.. So I have used several sources to build the birds I have now the last 25 years but they all have one thing in common, They go back to the birds Herb Sparks got from Howard McCully.. We all know Howard lived next door to Pensom and Howard kept only the Pensom line.. So yea, My birds are loaded with the old Sparks stuff Borges and Kiser got from Sparks along with a few other sources.. I hope this is the information you were looking for Laron.. Borges and Kiser are both great men and I consider both of them to be good friends of the Birmingham roller.. Tell Borges I said hi when you talk to him..Mongrel Lofts

Hey Kenny,
I was told a few of my birds are from Kiser and Borges.
One of the "Borges" birds is NBRC 01 B0084. The "Kisers" are all banded WHP. I have a couple from both in the air and they are pretty good so far.
Any ideas?

Ken - This is great. I know Herb also and many of the younger fanciers do not know how much he has contributed to the hobby. Well, take care Ken and I will tell Borges
