If you enter both an eleven bird and a twenty bird kit do you fly same day for same judge or are they judged at different times by different judges?

I have a question also, when you have a fly time is it written in stone? Is there any allowance for say severe weather or is it fly or DQ?

Hi Nick,
it depends on your region.. In my region, we fly the 20 birds kits one day and then the 11 bird the next.. We live pretty close together and we can fly 12 or 13 kits in one day if we need to... locally we fly for picking times.. We want the best kits to represent our region.. This has worked great for ten years now.. We all get along and we try to work things out the best for all involved in our region..
In my friend Bobby Bradley region, they only give him 45 minutes or so to get his first team down or he is DQed and they move on.. For some regions its a must due to distance between flyers..
If your on a tight time schedule your time has to be met pretty close.. If the judge and the guys in your region have plenty of time, its up to them if the time is set in stone.. I have heard rumor that they want to make the time set in stone.. What ever it takes.. I don't really understand why guys would want to win a fly because the kit had to be released in a wind storm when no one was flying right after that kit.. Do you? Hope this helps Guys,,, Mongrel lofts

Nick,
You will want to check with your RD on how he schedules the fly. A good RD will make every effort to accommodate the competitors. In my region, we use two days for the NBRC Fall Fly and the WC Fly. Those who enter 2 kits fly both days. If a flyer is assigned a desirable time slot (e.g. early morning) on one of the days, he will be given a not-so-good slot (e.g. midday) on the other day. No preference given to any one competitor.

There have been times when it has been necessary for an entrant to fly back-to-back, because he lives in a relatively remote part of the region. In such cases, we try to schedule it so that we break for lunch or breakfast between flying his 2 kits. IMO, requiring a flyer to put up his second kit 45 minutes after releasing the first kit is not very accommodating. Time to vote in a new RD.

Ron, regarding your "severe weather" question... in the past, bad feelings were generated in our region when an entrant was allowed to postpone his fly time to the next morning because the weather was awful when his scheduled fly time arrived. You can see why this would irritate other flyers, especially if they had to fly in so-so weather ahead of this entrant and the weather the following morning turned out to be ideal for flying. So my position on this issue is this: unless all the flyers in the region agree to last-minute rescheduling due to weather, entrants must live with their assigned fly times.
