Just a comment - A good coach can take average players and and make a great team. A bad coach can take great players and make them average. You can apply the same to loft management. When I was closely involved in my birds in California my kits did well. During and after the move to Arkansas my birds turned bad. I wasn't spending as much attention to them; had them off schedule often; had them locked down for awhile; not making any adjustments in feed; etc, etc.
Now that I have my kit boxes built and now finally having the time and energy to spend with the birds they are now starting to come around. I don't know how good they will get; that will depend on how good a coach I am. Time and competition will tell.
If you are not organized; develope a plan; and exicute the plan everyday you will never gain great performance in your birds no matter how good a family or strain you acquire. So if you think you can just buy the best and then not work at manageing them you are going to fail. There are a lot of people who think that if they buy Niebles or Billings or Reeds or Embertsons or Higgins and do nothing else they are going to have a great team. You got to coach'em everyday.
I proved that with my own birds. I took some good birds and due to some bad coaching about screwed them up(my own birds). This is why a lot of breeders don't like to pass on thier birds to people they don't know. If they don't know that you are going to coach them and take full interest in them then it is thier own reputation you are messing with by not coaching properly.
I have no idea why I brought this up.........I just don't have a life and I didn't have anything else to do(LOL). ----------

Amen to that Nick.An old sucessful rollerman in our area said "I'm part of the team or kit. If,the team does'nt do well I have to take the blame." Rollers take a lot of time and patience.Glad to hear your kit is coming around. John
