Well guys listen to this one. I was watching one of my birds hobble around on the loft top and once he went in I followed and caught him. When I got my hands on him it turns out that he shattered his leg bone between the hip and first joint. It had broken out through the skin. Well it had scabbed over and he was doing well to keep off of it. He still rolls very well but tends to hobble around the roof. I have been keeping an eye on him for the past week and he is really coming along. Just goes to show you that we don't always have to take things into our own hands. Mother nature will take care of our birds for us.
Just thought I would pass this on. This little guy is one of the best birds I have raised so I am happy he is going to make it.

Yeah,
Had a hawk attack on my young kitbirds yesterday. Was sure at least one got taken(2 hawks)and half landed right away and 5 hit the trees.Couldn't beleive it when by 8pm everybody had made it in to the kitbox!!One bird has a hole in her side(poured iodine on it)but seems to be surviving alright and another has a broken leg which I splinted with some smooth dowelling.CJ,not only are they resilient, they are a determined little creature.Hoping them hawks will bugger off if they don't have any success,,,so in lockdown for awhile.

CJ,
There is a big difference in breaking a leg and breaking its spinal cord or neck.
It is not a pretty sight looking at a crooked necked roller after bumping hard. I have yet to see one heal from such an injury. Some times I wonder how such a injury was not fatal to the bird. I have also seen my share of broken winged above average rolling birds. Got no use for such a bird in the stock loft nor kit box. What are you suppose to do with a bird that can not fly any more and also has not met your standard in the air?
I think people use common sense when dealing with our birds life. Do we let such birds suffer or end it?
There are injuries and there are I N J U R I E S.
I'm glad to hear your bird made it thru. I doubt a shattered leg, broken leg, missing toes, broken break, one eyed willy, broken rump, toren crop, or missing one leg would cause its owner to end its life. Oh, I have flown such birds and not once could I see the difference in their performance.
Thanks for sharing your story,
Thor
