I have been carefully training my new rollers (Neibels). They have taken some short flights from the roller loft to the homer loft and back. Well today was the day I had scheduled to flag them up and get them flying a bit. So up they went , and they were all over the sky, some tail riding (Which I was surprised as I didn’t expect that this soon). Two of the five came down the rest just got higher and I thought, Oh no, I’ve lost em for sure. I lock the two out of the loft hoping they might lure the others in but they just kept flying! They were having a good time and flying overhead so I sat back and enjoyed the show. One finally came down but the other two finally just disappeared. I called the three that had landed in and sent out the posse to find the other two, (My homer team). They brought one in but I still had one out. I thought, well I’ve lost one but at least I have four. The last one came in a couple of hours later. Glad to seem him. So all is well that ends well, but boy was it an exciting morning! Is flying rollers always this heart stopping? These birds were much stronger on the wing then I expected.

Spud, Yeah,,,it is heart stopping for sure.If they don't make you laugh, there is something wrong too!!Either they are giving you a show,or when the Henerys show up,or the Coopers, then the drama really begins.Make alot of noise if the preds show, bang some sticks or take their mind off their prey somehow.Above all, keep two eyes on those youngsters, and train em good. In the Sport, Kel.

Spud I love youngsters , and it's a hoot to see them finaly find their wings , it's like "I can fly , I can fly" LOL. As many kits as I've trained it is allways the same excitment of hoping they all make it man to the loft. And most always they do, sure one might spend the night in some tree here and there , but they always make it to the top of the loft come morning.

Kel, Hawks don’t seem to be a problem here. I’m fortunate that I live in the middle of a rookery so the crow keep the sky sharks at bay. In fact many of the baby crows are weaned right in my back yard! They are good friends to a pigeon man. They even go for cats prowling around! Thanks for the input.
