I am just about the only one in town that raises Birmingham Rollers. There is two others, a father and a son but they seam they are just doing it for fun without consideration to what quality or any of the competition stuff. So I wanted to start a club and there were no takers. Regardless I started Birmingham Roller Club of Lorain and I am the president, vice president, treasurer and members. So what, If I build it, they will come!!
Last year, I sponsored a 14 year old and under youth baseball team and the team did very well but was eliminated in the play offs. All what I wanted is to get the name out so that people start asking what this club all about and what is the BR pigeons!! This year I sponsored the same team, but the team went all the way to get the championship and beat all the other participating teams yesterday. Winning feels good especially when an individual like me sponsoring a team rather than a business or corporation. Now the name is out and everybody is talking, what the hell is Birmingham Rollers?
I also sponsoring the same team again for another tournament and will start this coming Saturday in the city next to us, and boy, them boys are hot and ready to kick some butts and will see if the other city will learn about them Birmingham Rollers.
Even the kids on the team and their parents didn’t know what BR pigeon is at first until they came to my house for an outing and saw the birds fly and perform. They thought when I let the birds free to fly, they won't come back...I will get the whole town corrupted with them rollers soon if the success will continue….

J Star congratulations on your success. It is great that you are trying to bring attention to our sport. I just hoipe that you are prepared that there may be interest by people in your town to raise the birds by just as back yard flyers. Raising at the level for competition takes a fair amountt of work and time not everyone is that committed. But you know what back yards flyers are cool too. You never know when the spark will hit and a new W.C. Champion will appear. Congrats again. Any positive attention to this sport is great. C.J.

Ron, Bobby and Smokey, Thanks for your thought and consideration. I will keep you in mind if I require assistance and nice to know of fanciers who are willing to give a helping hands.
My strategy is to get as many folks in my city and neighboring towns to know that there are performance pigeons that make good backyard pets for the whole family to enjoy. My message to the mothers of those kids is what a hobby do you know of that will keep the husband in the backyard and around the house!! My belief is that the mothers need to be sold to the idea of keeping B rollers and if the idea sets in their mind then their husband will act on it.
I am willing to give a pair or two to any new comers in my area to start their hobby with sound birds. I am preaching to them and soon they will get it. As you know, some people are animal/bird hobbyists and lovers while others might not be. I need to reach those people who are birds friendly. It is a matter of time.
I have been discussing the idea with my sponsored baseball team coaches of sponsoring the team as a traveling team next year. The traveling team will play ball against other cities and towns in the state. The winner will be in the playoffs to win the state championship and then go national against other states champions to win the national. Can you imagine the publicity!!! I have a pretty good baseball team that is made up of a collection of the best from the Varsity teams of both high schools in the city. They are the cream of the crop and extremely competitive. One of my pitchers is a 14 years old who pitches 85 mile/hr balls accurately. We have a hard time finding a catcher amongst the players who can catch them balls without hurting his hand through the glove. That is lightning. With players like that, then I can get them to the national competition, what a way to promote and make the B rollers known to allot of households in the state and others. Now, I need to make brochures and some education materials and pass it to the spectators, parents and relatives of all the players from both teams on the day of the game to educate them about our hobby because I been asked so many times what is Birmingham Rollers. And I will let them know that flyers are wanted in my club. Will see how things will go... and thanks again for your thoughts...
