Anyone got a new pairing that has panned out yet?
I was disapointed with the results from a pair I had high hopes for and was looking for a replacement. After the WC finals I took an Andy hen that is a good flyer, thirty foot H, and paired her up with a prepotent cockbird I have. Now this redbar has been on three different hens in two years and has yet to disappoint. He is hitting probably 70% gooduns.

The andy hen is his daughter and I have two squeaks that have been in the air for about four weeks now. A couple of days ago they were a bit high and I saw one of them hit a really nice 20-25 and I could`nt tell for sure which bird it was. I watched it til it came lower and it was one of the andy`s. I watched further and saw his nesty doing like wise. So far so good. Another pair hatched a day or two ago. I see a foster pair or two in the future.

Hey Kenny, I know that if mine do 20-25 feet in four weeks then in 5 I am picking them up in the street. Good luck with these ones. Joe

I don't evalute my pairings until I've seen all of their young go through the maturing and development cycles and most of the time, that means I leave the breeding book closed in that regard until winter. The very last thing I want to do is make measure of my pairs based off of young that are only 3-5 months old. If I put my nuts in that one basket, where would that leave me in six months when they are probably all dead?

Joe,
They are demonstrating some control, multiple depths. Mom is a good stable roller. I don`t forsee any problems. I have been waiting for this opportunity.

I can never make an accurate evaluation of my pairings until I see them fly as yearlings. My bad pairings show in the same year, but my good ones don't show their full potential until later. Every year I have at least one instance where I say "I with wish I had left that pair together".

I agree with many here , I won't know until next year how this breeding season went.
I'm seeing alot of roll right now but that means little, some will crash and burn, some will never show the qaulity I'm after, some will get short, some stiff , any number of things.
Come late next Spring is when the real cream will rise to the top and I'll get an idea of what I really have, anything else is potential and nothing more.

OK
Let me rephrase.

The squeaks are where I expect them to be right now to be on track with their mother. If the cock genes come thru they should get to 50-60 feet.Should be nice and stable apple bodied birds with a slightly protruding keel and an orange eye. Mom was a little slower at 18 months but still had nice depth. She also points nicely and responds well to my training methods. That is why I stocked her.
So far so good with the current pair of squeaks.
