When are birds too old to fly. I havent been in the forum for months now. My birds kinda let me down cause they are the doing there job like usual anymore. I have 1 that is an 05, and the others are like 2000-04. I think they must be old to fly now.

Those bird should just be in their prime. It isn't their age, It could be the feed or they aren't feeling well. Possibly they need wormed.

there are lots of things that could be going wrong. Like how much food are you feeding them?
Is there predators in the are?
What is the weather like?
Man an o5 bird isn't past its prime. You need to look at other issues.

Many good breeders are still flying birds the are 4 years old in competition. Keep them healthy and active.

It could just be the molt, I know my birds are falling apart right now, feathers everywhere.

Hey Washington86, the age of these birds is not the issue. Could be the molt, parasites, a let down in training, changes in the feed or routine.

There are so many issues that present themselves as we learn to work with our rollers. Your frustration at the problem is just as important as the problem itself.

Try to see overcoming this as just another step in learning about rollers and their proper and efficient management.

Everything said so far in this thread has some vaildity as far as what could be the problem.

Does anything suggested thus far "ring true" to you?

Washington86, Just a thought but you might want to take a look at how these birds are being housed. If you are flying a mixed sex kit, are the cocks acting like they are more interested in breeding than flying? You could have a cock or two that are raising cain in the kitbox instead of resting. Also how often are you flying them? Older birds don't need as much fly time as young birds, so they could just be in need of some time off to rest. Good Luck!

If it's not a health issue it's probably the moult.I lost two birds thursday(skyshark induced overfly)two more on saturday same reason.Switched fly time on Sunday and what a pile of c..p!These are all Ybirds but it looked like a scene out fo top gun. They were all over the sky.zero kitting, came trickling down one at a time, just a mess.
I think you get past the moult they will shape up.
