i need help my young rollers are getting sick and i don't know what to do. i pull them out and put them into the kit to train. then a few days later one of them gets sick. then about a two weeks later maybe another one gets sick. the dropings is liquidly and green. they seem to stop eating and get really skinny and die within a few days of them gettin sick, and this seems to only happen to my younger birds that i just pull out i was considering that it was Salmonellosis if it is how would i treat it if not then how would i go about solving this problem
thank you

There are a whole lotta things that they could have that fit that description. Only way you are going to know with any certainty is to have two live sick birds posted at your state lab and let them tell you what it is and what to treat the rest of your birds with.
My guess is Coccidiosis which can be treated with several different coccidiostats such as Amprolium.
The worst case scenario and one that for sure the vet would be able to tell you is Circovirus. Pray you don't have that. If your young kit birds are dying that fast, it's pretty serious and you need to have birds posted to get it sorted out. All anyone here can do is just speculate.

For the time being, put them on 4 N 1 medication. That will help you to save the others for the most part.

First, check your kit box for any mice droppings or any possible mice access. The birds will eat the droppings thinking it is seeds. Mice will urinate in the waterer and the birds will get sick and eventually die.

If not all that, it could be that you are taking them too early out of the nest and the stress is getting to them...maybe not!!

Take all the birds out of the kit box for couple hours and pressure spray the inside of the kitbox, hopefully you will wash away any bacteria or viruses...Those are just suggestions.

Flyinghigh,
Don't take any chances! Isolate a sick bird, gather some fresh droppings and send them in a sealed baggy in a bubble pack to Foy's for a stool analysis. You will get a report in a couple days as to what the problem is and what best to treat it with. The last time I had this happen it was a type of worm. The symptoms of so many problems look so similar that, otherwise, you are shooting in the dark and your chance of hitting the right med are "slim" and "none" and you will only loose more birds. It's best to find out for sure and target the correct problem with the correct med.Good Luck!

Isolate, clean, and 4N1 won't hurt. Send stool sample to Foy's. So, all of these guys are right(LOL)

Hi mate,

i had a similar problem a month ago to one of my bird. same symptoms. she died 5/6 days later (if i remember correctly).she died becos she was not eating (very poor appetite) & greenish watery droppings.

i think in my case it was a very severe coccidiosis (i didn't realise it at that time). try giving extra dosage of Baycox & administer it directly into their crop several times a day until they start eating.

if you put the medicine in the water, chances are your birds will not receive the medicine in adequate dosage & frequency (they don't eat, they don't get thirsty, so they don't drink much).

cull them if you think you can spare them. i spent $60+ on my hen and it was not worth it.

Its coccidiosis. It isnt salmonella at that age. Dont worry about mice unless you see or smell mouse droppings. Dont hit your birds with 4 medications. Hit them with amprol or baycox. No need to isolate the sick young birds in the kit pen. The others have all already been exposed. Treat them all but first kill the weakest ones that have been damaged and weakened from the disease. Dont wait for them to die a miserabel death--kill them when they are obviosly too skinny dumpy droopy eyes and fouled around the vent to survive.

Coccidiosis is most often found in filthy lofts with damp droppings and damp floors. Keep your loft dry. Keep feed clean. Dont leave feed laying around to get crapped on. Feed your young birds rich feed that they like to eat when you wean them--peas and safflower and maybe a little wheat and milo. They have the coccidiosis because they are weak and in shock from the weaning. It takes a week or two for the cocci to multiply and kill them. Coccidiosis takes over when you wean your young birds and they have to survive without their parents acquired immunity. Treat with Amprol or Baycox and keep your loft clean and dry--no wet floors from roof leaks or rain entering or leaky waterers. Kevin
