Thanks guys
I did't think my score would hold up. After my poor showing in the 20 bird fly, It was nice to see the same birds give a good performance for the 11 bird fly.

Edrick,
I make a few trips down there during the chicken season {Dec-July}. I stay in Popularville Mississippi when I come down and go over to franklinton and Tickfaw La. How far is that from you? Tickfaw is on route 12 above Hammond and franklinton is 35 minutes north. If that is close to you let me know. I would be more than happy to stop by.
Thanks Brian Middaugh

Today is my big day to fly the Finals. If anyone has any pull with the Higher Power above maybe you could put in a good word for me.Hawk free, and let them do the time.Everything is in place and I am just waiting for the judge.Nothing more for me to do except try to stay occupied.LOL.David

Well its over for me.Managed to squeeze out 61 points. They did the 20 minutes but the wind kicked up sooner than expected and kept them drove down over the ridge and out of sight of the judge. Most of the points they got were in the first 5 minutes. They would drop down behind the ridge and after awhile come back up to see if the Judge was still there and score a few more points.LOL. Had a Great time and got to meet one of the nicest fellows you could ever meet.Don Simpson is a "True Southern Gentleman".It was an honor to have him in my backyard and evaluate my rollers.
I was hoping for a better score but it wasn't my day.
At least I am in First Place in the Finals since I was the first to fly.LOL. Looking back over the preperation I did getting the kit ready I wouldn't change a thing if I had it to do over.
I will be pulling 5 of the birds for the Stock Loft and start rebuilding the kit for next year.David

David,
Qualifying for the finals in your first two years in competition is no small feat. Congratulations. It is obvious that you have the birds, the breeding program, and the management skills. Now all you need is a break from the weather and hawks! Good luck with your breeding season and in next year's fly!

I had my finals fly yesterday morning. My birds scored a 111. Overall I was happy with the birds in both the Regional and the Final fly. I lost (2) key birds off of the (11) bird team to the predators in the month between the qualifier and final. (1) was a standout bird. I am happy to get them locked down.
Good luck to everyone who has yet to fly.

I drove an Hour and half this morning to watch my first NBRC fly at the home of Gary Barris. Wow, his birds did great, if I remember right a score of 785 or there about. Beautiful team. He also flew an 11 bird team that were scoring well (99 points in first five min) but came down early and DQ. I was great fun! They made me keep score so I could see how the scoring was done. Certainly a different compition from 20 bird to 11.

Very interesting and gave me something to shoot for.

Cliff, My face hurts from standing there looking up with my mouth open! Very impressive rolling team. I'm looking forward to when my turn comes. By the way the Nibles are rolling well, and frequent. In fact maybe too frequent.

Hey Spud,
Your in a great region for flying Birmingham rollers..Learn all you can from them guys up there.. Then tell us down here what you learn!! LOL
We flew the second half of the Rocky Mountian region this weekend.. Beaver Dayton won the 11 bird fly with a 299.. I was leading it with 231 pts till Beaver knocked me out.. Get over and watch Gary Barris fly in the finals.. Don Simpson is a great guy and you will be glad you met him.. He probably won't ever be out our way again.. Look forward to flying with you Spud.. Those are awesome scores for 11-birds. (But we have come to expect no less from you.) Good work getting in at the last minute, anyway!

Kevin I cant say how Arts kit did because I wasnt able to make it to his place but Pauls kit landed at 11 minutes and I ended up with 237.3 with a 1.5 for Q and a 1.4 for D. I did talk to Paul today and he said Art ended up somewhere in the 130s. Pauls birds were held down by low clouds and fog which greatly affected his scoring and mine were just plain flat for about the last 7 or 8 minutes. Joe

Good job Dave!!! Awesome score dude!!

Kevin,

Arts kit looked pretty good....but he had to pull 5 or 6 birds and replace them with inferior birds...I can't remember the reason that Art said...but his kit looked better during the pre-lims.....Joes kit looked real good...but he and I noticed they were flying a little faster that day then he likes..As far a my birds go...It was kind of a light fog, overcast...the air was real misty and thick.the birds acted like they had water on there wings....really sloppy looking..then there was a mid air collision..at least that is what Joe and I think...one bird just left the kit and made a bee-line straight down to a two-story house a couple streets away...and then a little hen pulled away and followed ...DQ...BAH Hum BUG!!! I had 103pts...at the 10 minute mark..but the quality sucked and the depth was short...because of the lack of altitude...they flew like they had weights tied to them..they flew very labored...they could not get altitude with the thick air...anyway..I inspected the first bird that came down and it was limping and would lay down..so it obviously hurt something and the second bird that came down..had the last flights just about half way out..so she was hurting and was looking for an excuse to land......I should have looked my birds over a little better the night before...I would have most likely pulled that bird with the flight feathers...but I was unpacking deer gear..taking deer to the locker....bouncing the kids on my knee and letting the wife know that I missed her.....Shot a 25" spread..4X4 mule deer..so I was not totally bent..LOL!!

Bill C. Flew my A-team and fed them when I was gone for 10 days...he did a great job...Bill said that they looked real active the last day they flew...but what can you do...that is part of rollers...I was just proud to have the chance to compete...Anyway...Joe's kit looked real good as well as Arts..under the circumstances.

rock and ROLL

Scott, I will be taking your advice and I don't think I will be doing that well when the WC comes along but that is the sacrafice to move up one more notch. That young hen I was telling you about off your dun cock is really doing well.

Has anyone heard how Beaver Dayton did in the Finals? I heard that Joyner got 183 points and should put him in First Place. David

Hey Bluesman i talked to Beaver today and he said about 110 points. I talked to Ivan Hanchett early last week he thought Beaver would take it but he said he didn't have a good fly but would be back.
