Today while flying one of the kits, I noticed something interesting.
The birds breaking from the front of the kit were rolling a good 25-30'deep but it appeared more like 10'. This illusion was due to the fact that the kitbirds that weren't rolling were actually following the breaking birds down during their roll and created the illusion of shallow depth. This group of birds kits extremely tight and now I'm thinking that really tight kitting might not be a good thing if the breaking birds can't separate from the rest of the kit, especially if there's a judge watching them.
Any opinions?

Hey Russ. Are these young birds? I've seen many of my young kits do that sort of thing for about a three week to a month stretch. Sort of as if the others kind of fall while they stall. I've found that once they begin maturing, if they aren't going to go on the break, they just keep on flying or hold their position for a moment.

Brian, most of the birds are around 6-7 months old, however I did add 6 younger birds to this group on Sunday. 6 that were already rolling. I guess I'll give them a little time and see if they adjust.
