It was a good fly day all the way around for me on Sunday. I only wish I were able to attend Friday and Saturday. There were some nice kits from what I am told. Anyway thanks Tapp and all for the cudos and I hope all 3 of us do well in the finals.I judged Guils birds in the prelims for the WC last year and he is a real class act. In fact that entire region has wonderful support for each other. It was great to get him down here to judge for us.Joe

Glad they were rocking and ROLLING for you Paul. I had a feeling this fly was your time. Very nice job and congrats again! Good luck on the 3rd. Didn't fly the squeaks today - too windy. I'll keep you posted on their progress. Talk to you later my friend.

Good work, Joe and Paul!! You too, Brian. I hear you snuck in under the wire in your region; thanks to a Cooper's atack that livened up your birds! LOL! I never thought I'd see the day that you would resort to falconry to get your birds in gear! LOL! (I might have to try that, myself!) Why do you think they started out so flat for 10 minutes?) Anyway, best of luck to all of you in the finals!!

Cliff, that actually isn't the whole story. I haven't been spending as much time concentrating on the birds. Been spending too much time at the trap range shooting with my son. I made a new A team about a week before the fly. They were really good, but I decided to see just how far I could go with tweaking them. Basically went for broke...and broke...lol. One bird crashed right out of the box, an '06 bird that had never done that before, but obviously couldn't handle the tweaks. It flew up and then didn't want to go up, but wanted to land. I decided to wait out the five minutes to see if it would land, then not count that bird. In the mean time the kit was rolling their asses off..lol. Long story short, that bird never landed before the five was up so it counted as an out bird and at about the 10 minute mark another one, one of the hotter ones decided to fly above the kit sporatically, therefore in the end, I didn't get about 2/3rds of the breaks the kit could have scored. That's just the way it goes when you go for broke (Right Scott...lol)

I flew my "other" team today which was basically the birds I didn't choose for the primary team. I flew them Sunday and they were just so-so, too short for my liking. I flew last today at high noon and they came out flying too slow, the air was dead calm. They probably weren't going to do much until a cooper comes in like a falcon and blows the kit apart at about 400 feet up. They got back together and went to work I guess. I was on the patio showing a friend a new gun I got yesterday so I must have missed that frenzy. The last ten minutes they flew around the loft and nearly DQed, but a few buzzards flew by and made them lift up and the broke some more, then landed about a minute afte time was up. I scared them back up after time was up to make them fly, which they did for another 20 minutes..lol. I was quite surprised by the score the received, but I didn't watch them the whole time. Just glad to be in the show after my losing gamble on Saturday.
That's the story---now I'm off to the range:)

Well done!!!your deeper quality birds helped you get that one, very consistant as well.Is there anything you'll do different for the finals?? Or just put them up, and let the birds do what they do??...Aloha,Todd

Joe,

Thanks for the compliment...that really means a lot. Was it that long ago...seems like yesterday..LOL!! To be honest....it was all the mentors that helped out along the way....Chuck Roe, You, Scott Campbell, Dan Cowell, Mort Emami, Tony and so on....and of course this site....All that the new fliers have to do is read the elevendy billion posts on this site and follow what experienced fliers are saying. Getting good birds help too. Anyway...I feel honored and lucky to represent 9B. Ok...group hug..LOL!!!

Todd, Unlike alot of other fliers I dont really do much to prep my birds other than rest then for a couple days prior to fly day. I feed my birds a mix that I special order that is a 12% no popcorn 365 days a year and just change up the amount depending on how they are acting. This is a very easy family of birds to manage and have been pretty darn consistant. My only fear is that the preditors move in on me and keep me from flying them. Joe

Kevin,

The schedule is Myself, then Joe, Then Art. We will start at 8am....the sunrise will be about that time at the end of Novemeber. We could not get ahold of Art to see if earlier or later would be his preference. numerous phone messages were left..Chuck felt starting in Woodland would be the easiest..since the judge is staying at his house. The starting and ending times should be about the same no matter where we start or finish. It does not matter to me when I fly...heat will not be an issue in Late November. I guess the director wanted the schedule by the end of the week.
