I am new to owning rollers and am curious as to how long of a life span does a normal pigeon have barring sickness or getting done in by a predator.....would love to hear from some of the owners that have had birds for years as to the oldest bird they ever had thanks ..Dave

The oldest pigeon I have isn't a roller, and she is 11 years old and still kicks them out two at a time. In terms of general roller lifespans, excluding disease, etc, 10-15 years can be expected in a healthy loft. A friend of mine had two brother rollers, one died at 22, the other just this past year at 24 years of age. Both fertiled at over 20 years old. In terms of kit birds, you will really never know in today's flying environment due to predators and overflys. I have a few that are five years old in my old bird kit. Jay Starley is known to fly comp kits consisting of birds of 5-7 years old.

Coo, the oldest birds i had was 15 and 16 years old and were still fertile almost to there end,(a CORNELL NORWOOD line bird and PAUL PLATZ bird),there was another bird(47) that i knew from Cornell that lived over his 20's.I still have quite few older birds ranging from 10 to 12 years that are still going strong. I would have to say a good diet and good loft management, contributes to there longivity. Later Dude------R-LUNA
