summer, good luck with the birds. heres how it was shown to me. it may take a little practice but it has worked for me almost every time. hold the bird in 1 hand and lay your middle finger of your other hand on the keel bone. put the front point of the bone against the base of your palm, where the finger starts. using your finger as a measuring tool, with a little practice you will find the cock birds keel bone to be about a quarter inch longer than the hens. young birds are more difficult to tell before they are fully developed, you might try this on a friends birds which he already knows the sex, to test yourself. very seldom have I been wrong with this technique. give it a try, and post back on your results. observing behavior is also a good tool, but it is also not always perfect or easy. with using both techniques you should be good to go.any one else trying this???

actually, after you try it a few times it is quite easy. try it on a couple birds that you know for sure the sex. this works best on rollers and similar bodied birds. I have tried it on fantails and other larger birds and I cant seem to get a FEEL, for it. LOL

Thanx all.....I let my birds out Sat. and had a hawk come right in the middle of them...was afraid would loose them all (22) but 20 came home....This is when I found out I have at least 2 "boys" as they were happy campers on my roof before I got them all in. What a week-end it was, as it took my husband and neighbors and me 2 days to get them all back.
