What happends if you put 3 eggs under a foster pair? Would they sit on them? Would they feed the squabs?
Thanks

Sure, they'll hatch them out,but feeding three young is hard on the parents and the young may not all be healthy or strong as you would want them. ---------- Kelly

if you have giant pigeons like that of hommers and king size pigeons 3 is nothing, but if you had other rollers, there's a strong chance that 2 of the birds will not survive.

Feeding three young is all about the parents...I have a couple pairs that will raise three young with no problems at all...others have a hard time raising two..LOL...Don't make a habit of it...but in an emergency...it can be done..it is more stress on the breeders.

Ive also put 3 eggs under a foster pair a time or 2. It can be done with success but it takes a lot of watching over them. if 1 of the is smaller than the others it may not make it. What I`ve done then is to switch it again to a pair with birds the same size, but again, watch it closly, If possible put it under a pair with only 1 young`un. All in all its a lot of time and work to save 1 bird and if your not carefull to mark the odd egg you dont know who the parents are, then after the hatch you have to mark the babys foot with fingernail polish so you can keep track of whos who.
now days I dont try this any more. IT can be done but you gotta spend a lot of time with it. good luck either way.
