If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?

I have a kit box that I think is ideal.
It has wheels so I can move the box from under the carport to the driveway. It was given to me from a friend in the Roller sport and I haven't seen anything that is as useful as this one.
If need pics, contact me :thepigeonzone@yahoo.com

I had a kit box that was a small 3 ft x 3ft x 2 ft cage. It could hold up to 16 birds. For the perches I used Hobby Crates that I bought from a near by dollar tree. Had it for about 3 months until I finally culled and could afford a kit box.

Tikys,

remember this is just my opinion, But, if you want this to be fun for you and best for the birds, dont get in a hurry... save a few bucks every week till you can get the material to do it right. also, if you watch around construction sites, they regularly throw away a lot of very usable lumber that can be used.

In the mean time, shop the web for ideas,. there are dozens of different kitbox designs out there.

Heres how I have mine,... first is a double box. set on 4 posts. each box is 4 feet wide and 3 feet deep and 4 feet high. 1 x 1 wire floor so the crap gos mostly through. the back wall is 1 sheet of plywood. anouther sheet cut in half makes the sides and anouther makes the front. screw these all in place and then draw the doors on the front and cut them out. hinge them and screw them back in place. For the roof I prefer it to slope down to the front so when the birds land on it I can see them. the down side to that is feeding on rainy days. A gutter made of 2 inch PVC pipe cut in half costs about 5 bucks.

On the inside you will need to devide it in the middle.
I use box perchs made of 1 x 4 lumber. set these an inch from the back wall with a spacer so when yyou scrape crap off them you are pushing it away from you instead of pulling it off the shelf toward you. If you paint all of the wood inside you can spray most of the droppings off with the water hose while the birds are flying. then the scraping is minamal and basically no dust to breath.

again, this is just a suggestion, find as many kits as you can and then look at their boxs. ask the owner what he likes about them ,or dislikes. you will be happier if you spend the time to get what you really want versus making do to get it done in a hurry.

If I ever build again it will be, where all the care is done from inside. but that type of building would be a more substantial cost. good luck whatever you decide. do your homework ...

You don't have a loft or a kit box...unless it has a swing set and a slide attached..LOL!!!!

It is so funny,,,I will have people over for a BBQ and they do not even notice that I have pigeons until they start cooing loud or I mention it. It really blends into the surroundings....and the kids love playing on the loft. Incognito brother...

I rarely lose young birds or birds in general and I am convinced that the footprint of the loft from the air..helps in locating the loft
