They all are from Rick Mee stock. I lost one of the best hen few days ago (probably overfly) which I bred last year. She was 40-50 footer, very fast, frequent...one of the best bird I ever seen in the air.

Rauf, How are you doing your records since you don't band? You have some good looking birds. I wish I had more light colored birds in my kit. Alot of dk. checks and rec. reds, but they get the job done so I'm not changing anything.

Nice looking birds.Any stand outs in the kit shown? How do they perform in general? Why no bands? Thanks for posting the photos.

Actually, I was just lazy to band them. The good thing is they all came from a single pair. Some of them start showing good work others are just so so. I would know there true potential next year when I start flying them in March 2007. At the moment they are locked.

Thanks, -Rauf

Rauf,
You said all these different patterns and modifiers all came from just one pair? Reason I asked is because if you bred a grizzle. I thought the grizzle was dominate. And everything that came from a grizzle would show grizzle. Because I had some of the Roe birds that were oddsides and when I placed them over a grizzle I would get grizzles. Just thinking out loud here. Can you tell me what the pair looked like that produced all these birds?
Thanks

Hi Brain, Here are the pictures of cock (blue bar) and hen (White with black dots). All youngsters came from this pair

Well I looked it up. And me being no genetics expert it said if you breed a grizzle to a non-grizzle you will have 1/2 grizzle and 1/2 not. Where I always though if it had just a shot of grizzle it would be grizzle. So now I have a question for everyone. If you take one of those babies and breed it to another bird {non-grizzle} could you get a grizzle out of it? Or does it matter if it is a Homozygous or Heterozygous grizzle?
Thanks Brian

Looking at the YB's I'd say the hen is heterozygous, therefore any grizzle out of that pair would be Hetero and if mated to a non-grizzle you should get 50/50 grizzle and non.I think. Where thr heck is Brian Mc when you need him!

Ron,
If the hen is Hetero and she was mated to the cock the babies would be 50-50 babies. because if she was a Homozygous and mated to a non-grizzle you would get 100% Heterozygous grizzle. But what I'm asking is if you take a non-grizzle off of this pair and breed it to another non-grizzle would you get any grizzles? What I guess I'm saying is if it carries grizzle would it show it? or could it hide/mask grizzle.
Thanks Brian

Brian,
Barring any other factors like rec/red if the bird was carrying grizzle it would show.So my answer would be no.But I don't know how the pied effects the grizzle.Although I have a hen out of ash red cock and a black mottle that was born pure white,As it feathered out it was a very light lavender grizzle. It has moulted out and now "looks" like a lavender self? no grizzle showing at all.If someone want to take a stab at that one?Anyway
with just dealing with grizzle if the Yb is not a grizzle than it shouldn't throw any grizzles if bred to a non-grizzle.
