A while back I read somewhere that someone thought the hawks didnt like the birds with paint on them. I use halloween hairspray on my young birds to help identify them in the air. the other day I had a hawk hit the kit but he singled out a bird without paint on it. was this just a fluke ? Man if this would help I would paint all my birds. Any thoughts??

If you try it , my personal oppinion, is the pink or hot red color is best to see in the air. Flourescent green works well also. On dark birds I`ll paint one left wing, one right wing and the tail of anouther. If necessary I have then painted both wings on a bird if I got too many that all look alike in the air. Now is a good time to find it at stores selling halloween stuff on sale and stock up. Good luck with it.

In our futurity fly earlier this year we used food coloring to mark the birds.I was against it at first, but once I saw it,I enjoyed watching the kit and noticed the neighbors watching more too.I'm not quite sure if it will stave off a hungery predator, whatever color you use.It will defintely be an interesting sight in the air though, predators aside.Don't get the food color on your hands, its pretty permenant stuff...Aloha Todd

Belle,

I have tried about every color I could find at wall mart or any other discount store. Blue is ok on some grizzles with a lot of white feather, but on brack, it sorta blends in. And true, Todd, it does make a cool site for visitors. Pink, Red and Bright Green seen to work best for me, especially on white flights, which I get a lot of. But try any color you can find, you may be able to see better than myself. Without my glasses on I can hardly see the computer screen...LOL.. Gettin older sucks some time...
