As a new person to the hobby I have found it really difficult to understand the various descriptions given to each bird such as colors, bald, grizzle, tortoise and so on. Even viewing pictures in some of the books I have purchased it still doesnt seem real cut and dried. I was loaned the july-august 2006 NBRC issue and it has a pretty good article on simple color genetics that has helped a little however I keep thinking there must be a book or publication with color pics that will make it much easier?
My friend was also kind enough to loan me THE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER PIGEON by PENSOM and I have devoured it cover to cover. Maybe identifying a birds color and description is just something that comes with time and being around other fanciers. Sure is frustrating when you dont know if your right about what to call a ROLLER. Any suggestion for us new people concerning this?

KnifeMaker, here is a place on the web that will give you a ton of info about genatics. Frank Mosca is one of the greats about genatics.

Thanks Jay, I will do some investigation there and print the materials off for further study. I had ordered a couple books from Tony, TRUE SPINNING ROLLERS 11 and WINNERS WITH SPINNERS , then a friend loaned me Pensoms THE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER PIGEON and all are exceptional books but I still lack good understanding concerning correct descriptions. By the way I ordered from Tony on a tuesday morning and thurday afternoon the books were on my doorstep by priority mail. Thats what I call good fast service.
I'm amazed at the amount of people that use this forum, old timers as well as those of us who are learning. My hats off to Tony for what he has created here, the forum has been invaluable as a new person to the hobby. paul

Hey Paul, I am glad you were happy with the service! What did you think of that little amber jar for meds? I use them for all the meds and it just makes dispensing powders so much easier and convenient.

BTW, I am glad you and so many others are finding Roller-Pigeon.Com useful and a valuable tool for learning. So many contribute to make it what it is and I am very greatful to those who's regular participation make this a fun, enjoyable and useful site. Thanks everyone!

Tony, The small amber jar works great and it was the perfect size to hold the entire bag of 5 in 1. That size jar fits nicely in the door of the refrigerator and the wife gave me a white self adhesive label to stick to it so I'll never have to worry about the identity of the contents or the directions for use. thanks paul
