Jay,
Let's try this again! I agree with you on your methodology. But let's take a trip to along long time ago in
a place far far away to when you were wearing short pants and trying to catch commies in the barn.LOL
The best birds I can buy/find may or may not be good quality if I have no comparison. I am no beginner with pigeons but I know zilch, nada, nohting about competition and as much as I would like to "get out of my backyard"
work and other obligations make it tough. It's is tough to start without a clear picture of your goal which is what I
am trying to get via the internet. No it is not a substitute for being there but it is my current option.I think alot of guys are starting out with unproven birds or even squeekers that they may have a fair amount invested in
a don't want to risk them to the preds and overflys.
So what are there options? My plan is to aquire several reputable familys, breedthem fly them, make comparisons and draw my own conclusions. Not everyone has access to a mentor.---------

Ron, from reading your post, the impression I get is that you don't really have time to properly maintain, fly, evaluate and promote several families to determine the best that will suit you or your needs. The best is to acquire and/or maintain one solid family to start with and work with it. In the near future when you determine that the family needs to be enhanced a little for whatever reason, then you will work on that. Competition is fine and dandy but on comp day it is nothing more than luck. I understand that management practice and behavior is a major part but good weather, pred free time, and the mood of the birds to give an outstanding performance will play greater part for success....Jay
