Methinks Ol Andrew might have had a recent seperation from his cash at the hands of a feather merchant. He is trying to understand how this could happen to him,and just why won`t someone just give him a few of their best stock birds after all it is JUST A HOBBY. ---------- If they don`t kit, they don`t score. Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly. It`s a comp thing, understand?

V99, did you just sayin that i spend too much cash on PIGeo..Helllno, you're wrong......No more than 100 buck. I had never buy a bird that would cost me couple hundred bucks. i only bought from the swap meet with couple bucks. There are people just can't quite to spend money on birds. and spend their time on their backyard instead with their family. and never think of their family first before his pigeon..After all it's just a Hobby...

Andrew, some people become obsessed with things. It doesn’t matter if it is pigeons or cars or whatever. Those people who take things to an extreme by spending allot of money that they don't have or have but it is better spent somewhere else that should be spent on is absolutely wrong. If you have the extra cash and want to enhance your birds by purchasing from others then that is fine. If you don’t then start saving a few bulks here and there and you will end up having what you want. For about $200 you can purchase couple pairs from Tony, which are known to be excellent quality rollers, and breed them using fosters to triple the output. In no time you would have a kit of good quality birds and start your selection, evaluation and culling to only keep the best. Then and only then you will join the group of fanciers who enjoy a loft full of excellent birds and then and only then you can say that with little money you were able to create a family of excellent pigeons with the help of Tony. Then and only then you will have a greater appreciation to your birds because you bought them with your hard earned cash and were not just given to you. You will feel confident, strong and proud of your loft and your achievements. You don’t need to spend $2000 for kit of birds to start; common sense and logical thinking will get you there. Once that is established, then you will need to keep them protected and away from thieves, sky and land predators and harms way. Spending time with your birds is as important as spending time with your family and friends. Each requires and needs quality time from you to keep things in harmony, otherwise, you are heading for self destruction. Please don’t go looking for freebees because the old adjure say “you only get what you pay for”. For that reason, getting free birds don’t get you to a world class roller loft if you don’t have the network of true friends who can help you get there without spending money. Although, that doesn’t mean you have a free ride. Rather, that means you have to return the favor back to them in the near future. There is nothing free in this world or a free ride…my friend. That is my take….Best of luck.

Here's a simple formula.
Travel. Find best birds you can. When identified, pick two from the air. Ask the man if you can purchase the best two in the kit. If not possible, something off the parents. Go home. Smash the piggy bank on the kitchen floor. Take money. Bring to same guy. Say thank you. Take birds home.
In the event he claims they are not available, wait until they are. Don't forget to say thank you anyway.
Bullet proof formula.

Milo, I waited 7-8 months for a pair of breeders to become available. Paid pretty dearly for the pair but still felt like I got a bargain. The pair in question is a click pair. Produces the goods. Bottom line is takes connections, and a lot of talking and waiting for just the right time.
Breeder was slimming down his gene pool and I was in the right place at the right time with just the right need for a caring fancier to have a bit of pity on me and sell this pair. This year was my turn to spread the wealth. I handed over 25 kit birds and 12 pairs of breeders to my roller friends,no charge. ---------- If they don`t kit, they don`t score. Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly. It`s a comp thing, understand?

Velo99, I will attest to your generosity because I was one of the recipients of several of those breeder pairs. By the way, I still have those pairs and I am flying 8 youngsters off them. :)

Dave,
Flying for money, it's something that will make us want to improve our birds. and it's a way to understand them well. you probably misunderstood what i'm trying to discuss here. All i'm saying is that selling expensive birds might be another cause a person become thief.

Expensive pigeons don't make a person become a thief. Lack of morals, self respect, respect for others and an irresponsible and wreckless attitude generally bolstered by an unstable upbringing are the root causes for someone becoming a thief. Not to mention them being complete pieces of shit and a burden to society.
PS--Can you please elaborate on how flying for money helps a person to understand their birds better?

Man thats the damdest thing I ever heard. Expesive birds make a guy become a thief. I think that common sense tells me that A thief would steal them weather they were expensive or not just so he wouldn't have to pay for them. Not even taking into consideration the amount of hard work a breeder has put into them. Not to mention the fact that what they were is gone now because the thief knows absolutely nothing about the breeding heritage behind them so basically just throws them in a pen, or worse cuts the bands off and takes them to the swap meet to disperse to many different handlers. I say handlers because anybody that is looking for real proven stock is not going to be at the swap meet so the birds are going to somebody that doesn't have a clue what to do with them usually.JMO though. You can not improve your birds by going to the swapmeet every weekend and buying birds. If this is just a hobby than no need to fly for money, just for the fun of it. I have offered birds for free and they were stolen. My nephew has given away birds for free and his were stolen so I don't get the point where expensive birds will make people steal.
