I wanted to get your opinions on flying young birds in the wind. I ask because I have a kit of young birds, (3 months old) that I'm flying. This time of year there's a stiff breeze blowing where I live on most days. Some days a little stronger than others. Usually around 10 to 20 m.p.h. with occasional gusts. I like a slight breeze but it's usually more windy than I care for. However, if I only flew the birds when conditions are decent, they'd only fly maybe 2 times a week if that. I've been thinking that it may not hurt them until they start coming into the roll but they've been flying some patterns lately that I'm wondering if the windy conditions cause them to fly. They are not patterns conducive to good kit performance. I know most people feel it's not good to fly the A-team in the wind as it may cause some bad habits but do you feel the same holds true for young birds that have not come into the roll yet?
Thanks! ---------- Darin Olson Checkerboard Lofts

Darin, Be caraful is all I can say. The birds will develope bad flying habbits if flow to oftem in heavy winds. They need to know how to handle the wind but they also dont need to look like a snake going across the sky. JMO. Joe

Darin, Wind above 10 miles an hour will ruin young birds.. Your old birds are set in their ways and patterns.. The wind is just a hitch for an old team.. Its a learning disaster for young birds if flown in strong winds on a regular basis.. Especially right during their development periods.. This is my experience over the years.. KGB

Darin,
12-15mph is my limit....but of course I do not have 12-15mph winds every day. But that seems to be the limit that I have flow in....with no problems what so ever. KGB is right...Old Birds can handle it...can't teach an old dog new tricks..LOL..
If you have 20mph...I would leave them in brother.
