I wanted to ask if anyone knows how good are Sam Guttierez birds/family. I just got a S.G. cock at the Pomona Bird Mart on 11-26-06.

Snowman, I am not going to desrespct anybody here especially since I dont even know him but I will tell you that the Pamona bird mart is not the place to go if you want good birds. What you will normally find at a place like that is " Feather Merchants ". There is a wealth of very high quality birds down in that area and I would bet that most would never consider selling any of their " Good " birds and the swap meat. Take a peak into the NBRC directory and you will find a boat load of fliers that you can contact. You never know one of them might even know the gentleman that raised the bird that you have. Joe

Sam has the Lemyer family. He is one of the very few guys that Richard Para took under his "wing" and got started with orginal blood from Lester Lemeyer's loft. Just because it was found at a swap meet doesn't mean it's junk. The bird might have been strayed in at someone's loft and they didn't have room for it, it might have been given to a individual who had no need for it, or like any other family (even some of the best in the world) it was a cull. I can tell you one thing some of that Lemeyer blood, can roll their asses off.

Thank you Mark. Thats exactlly what the man that sold him to me said, "I have no more room for him, besides, I already built a kit out of his younsters," not only that, he gave me his name and phone number in case I needed any more birds. He is also a member of the NBRC.

Snowman, think about what that guy at the swapmeet told you and ask yourself if it makes any sense.
The bird was good enough to breed a kit from but not good enough to keep?
The guy's a feather merchant.

Birdman, I don't know if you are making reference to Sam being a feather merchant or the guy that was selling the bird as being the merchant. I also don't know if you know either one of these guy personaly. I will tell you one thing for sure, Sam is no way a merchant. He would as a younger man in the hobby hang around a man by the name of Bob Scott. Scott was one of the best flyers & breeders in Southern Cal, not for a number of years, but a number of decades. I'm not saying Scott was someone you would want to bring home to dinner with your family, but as far as birds went, he was one of the better bird guys around. One of his managment thoughts was, if the offspring off of a pair were producing better than their parents, than there was no need for the parents anymore & down the road they would go. I know for a fact that Sam belives very strongly with this thought process.

Mark, if you read Snowman's post you will see that he bought the bird from a 'guy' at the Pomona swapmeet. I'm only referring to the comments made by the swapmeet seller, not Sam.
I've met Sam before and actually got my first birds from Bob Scott back in 1974-75. Please don't try to read something into my post that isn't there.

Fair enough, Birdman. I personaly never have sold a bird except to the gun club guy that hangs around Leaches mill in Downey. But there are guys that sell birds that aren't mechants. Would we agree?

Mark your right Sam breeds the Lehmyer family 327,771,5009,857 he is a class act one of Bob Scott's well known pairings was 327/5009 that he aquired from Richard Para i have some of Sam's birds as sam is a good friend of mine. When Sam was in the CRS club along with Frank Lavin , Richard Espinosa,Dave Sanchez, Willie Wright, Mike and Pete the Russian brothers, they can tell you he was hard to beat in fly competition. They are also being bred and flown by Alonzo Cano of Los Angeles Ca also i good friend Alonzo is probably the top flyer in that area. John M.

What does any of the names being thrown around have to do with a bird bought at a feed store, just more of "it's from so and so" sorry but doesn't mean diddly. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

EXAMPLE ... Scott or Kenny give George some squeekers ( Im dreaming).
George says WOW I better stock all them Birds since there from some top flyers .
Well Scott and Ken tell George Fly the Crap out 0f them , there are no guarantees,
George fly' s them for two seasons 3 rolldown 3 are good spinners but lack the style George is looking for BUT George Finds two pair he really likes and stocks them
Now George is going in the right direction.
