How can I cull birds as swiftly, and painlessly (for the birds sake......and mine) as possible?

you sell it at an auction... or donate non rolldowns to a person who is starting out or restarting out.

Sorry for the unspecific question, the bird I'm culling has PMV.... I'm not trying to give myself or anyone else problems with the Virus.

In the "All Roller Matrix" tab on your left, there is an article called "Culling Plans". Read it and will give you what you need to know.

I would put it in a solitary cage, feed it and give it a drink and if it survives PMV then that bird will be off the hook, I'd put the bird far away from the loft just in case if it is contagious, sorry but there is a stronger chance of the bird dying because PMV is a virus. And do not let your other birds eat seeds exposed to rats or rat pee..

Hey Snowman,
Hold the bird in one hand with 2 fingers over the shoulders then using your other hand with the 2 fingers snug around the head give it a good jerk and it comes off easy.Not attached very good.Just hold the bird in the first hand so you don't get the blood everywhere.This is a quick,humane way to do it.

Snowman;

I really hate doing it but if it has to be put down.I just put the bird in a see thru plastic bag like the ones from the market and i put a pellet in the birds head quick and hopefully not to much suffering for the animal.(they usually die right away)If it doesn't have to die i just release them far away from home and let them make their way.

You do not see many rollers hanging out in the wild because they die of starvation or thirst; or hawks take them. Very agonizing death. Releasing them into the "wild" is no different then dumping an unwanted dog or cat in the country hoping that it will not find its way back home. It is not a responsible way to do things. Take care of your own responsibilities.

I also use a pellet handgun. One shot in the back of the head (the gun almost touching the head), with the bird held gently, then the bird is dropped into a refuse sack and it's over very quickly, with a minimum of blood. The bird is dead pretty much instantly. I really couldn't pull a bird's head off.

Just fold the legs back toward the tail and wrap your fingers around the back part of the bird and squeeze with a steady grip untill the bird just relaxes in your hand.No fuss,no blood and the bird never knew it went to sleep forever. David

Stick him in a plastic shopping bag first. Gather a little extra in the corner so his head will come off cleanly. No blood on your hands or a mess for the neighbors to see in the dumpster.My dumpster is two steps from the back gate.They usually have expired by the time I get there. Sorry you had to do it bro.

If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?
