Last ones!
Temperature Powered Fan - it's big and looks like it might be real noisy but it's actually not. Wow, does it provide great ventilation through the five floor-level vents.
Here's a closure shot of the kit boxes. They are basically 3 feet square, 4 1/2 feet tall in front, 5 feet tall in back.

Beautiful loft Darin. Make sure that fan gets good use as the loft looks pretty closed up. The dust will build up quick. I take it your city building codes aren't like ours here because they wouldn't allow us to build that close to the property line fence...LOL.

Brian, it's not on a permanent foundation so that limits the compliance with code. Very little dust when that fan is on. However, it doesn't kick on below 60 degrees so it doesn't run in the winter unless it gets warm inside the loft which it can when the sun's shining. It does seem closed up, but you'd be surprised with a breeze, how much air actually moves inside the loft with the 5 floor vents I have.
Here's a few more pics of the back and entrance to the loft as well as the best spinner I bred this year.
30 foot, fast, smooth, and tight. She does it right.

Oh, okay. In the first pictures it looked like it was only inches away from the fence, but you definitely have a nice gap to walk all the way around it. Nice set up Darin.

Sant...
Yes, I am moving out of the playhouse...it breaks my heart...but the kids don't play with it very much anymore...and the wife is sick of the feathers in the pool.and I wanted to build a hen loft and she told me..I have enough cages...so I am building new one that is 8'wide by 14'long. The kit boxes will be inside as well as the breeder loft and hen loft...with some room to move around...that way..everything is enclosed...so the feathers will not be in the pool....Man...I hope it looks half as nice as Darins...man that is a nice looking set up. Anyway...my Breeder loft swing set goes down on the 15th and the new loft goes up on the 17th...then I get everything together on the inside and then the kit boxes go up for sale.
Darin...NICE LOFT MAN..

Thanks Brian, it took me about 8 months to get it exactly where I wanted it with siding, power and all. Everything's covered in siding or metal so it's no maintenance on the exterior. I went with the floor tile inside because it seems to help keep it cleaner and looks nice also. I've found wood stove pellets make the best floor covering in the hen and cock cages. The loft is 8' by 16' and the hen and cock cages on the one end are 4' feet wide each and come out from the wall 5 1/2 feet. The other 8'X 11 1/2' are kind of the main part of the loft which is where I keep the two 8-compartment breeding cages I breed in during breeding season. I needed to keep it somewhat closed off so that I could heat it up a little in late January so that I can start breeding early in the year. Otherwise, it's just too cold. It was basically my first attempt at every building anything and I thought it turned out okay. I already have a few changes I would probably make it I built another one but believe me, that's going to be many years down the road. ---------- Darin Olson Checkerboard Lofts

DD,
There is nothing better than anything that you build and feel the pride of doing it. Great job...This way you know your next door neighbors will not complain about a run down loft in your back yard next to the property line. Also the wife and kids will not complain of the thing being an eye sore to them and their friends also. Very nice job my friend...

Those are windows above the kit boxes. The traps came from Foys and I'll get a picture tomorrow up close and post it here. Anyway, thanks guys for the compliments. Lot's of blood, sweat, and money in that thing but it was well worth it. That loft should last as long as I live hopefully.
I love looking at other people's lofts and set ups so if you haven't, post some pictures. ---------- Darin Olson Checkerboard Lofts

Nice eye Sundance, actually it is. I was flying a bunch of birds a month or so ago to separate them out into the kits that I wanted to work with and I have many darker birds so I needed to mark her so I could make sure she was the one I thought she was. ---------- Darin Olson Checkerboard Lofts

Hey Double D.......SUPER nice job, looks AWSOME inside and out. Where did you get your traps? Ive seen them on some other kit boxs too. Would you e-mail me (hdwindjammer@yahoo.com) where I might be able to purchase them? Id like to use that type for my new kit boxs. Fly High and Roll On Paul

Beautiful loft Darin.Congrats on a fine job. Especially it being your 1st time. The traps are nice to,i have the same ones. The only problem i'm experiencing is, my birds have figured out how to open them from the inside and get out so i have to make sure i close them up right after they trap or else.............

Darin, I think our birds maybe related.. That blue check sure looks like home? LOL Hey, is that web toe on her right foot? Darin, what did it cost you to build the loft? I'm working on getting material together to build my new lofts at the new place.. I have 40 sheets of plywood and a bundle of 2x4's.. A few sheets of flooring down of 2 x 6's but Man materials are expensive!!! I was hoping to build a loft 32' x 12 with a hall way that turns right into the kit loft haul way, which would be another 24 feet long.. I maybe an old man before I can get the materials togethers.. So what did that loft cost? What are the diminsion's of the main body? Great looking set up Darin.. KGB
