Hey Fellas, do you have rollers showing stuff to make 2007 a better year than 2006? What traits are showing up that you think will improve your family in 07?

Pre-potency and consistancy of a select cock to pruduce both quality and depth on various hens.

For the past few years the majority of my best birds have come directly from this cock and to a lesser extent one of his sons.

My primary focus will be to breed him to 3 related hens until I've got a full kit in the air and then give his son a go on the same 3 hens.

Depth and stability. I allowed my birds to get alittle on the fragile side. I am going to put a little size and strength back on. I have the stock to do it I think...we will see.

I am kinda like Nick. I have had some of my 04 birds start to be a bit unstable. I pulled them out of the breeders loft, some from the kitbox. I plan on going to a chunkier cobby bird for more heft. The ones I have of that type are showing some promise.

Since I am still in the building stages I will probably be up and down for another season or two till I get thru some of the combinations I want to breed together. I have two cocks I would like to use, with one as a foundation bird. The test will be in the air next fall when they get a bit of age on them. Still a lot of things undecided for a while yet. Just need time.

If they don`t kit,they don`t score.
Color don`t roll and peds don`t fly.
It`s a comp thing,understand?

Tony my entire breeding loft is based around one cock and he has been producing wonderful birds for me since 96 and his son and several of his daughters are doing the same. I also have a half brother of his that also does pretty darn good for me just not quite the percentages from him.Every birds in my loft is his son/daughter or grandson/daughter except for his brother and another first cousin of his. I see improvements every year in their young. Joe

I have found some new pairs that are really producing the SPEED...while keeping the other traits. I think 2007 will be a better year than 2006...2 out of 3 new pairs are really showing there stuff. So we will see. I doubt that I will add any new birds to the stock loft next year...do to the fact that my lost A-team had some of the birds I was really looking at....I do have a hen that is an 04 and is really doing good in the A-team....I am really happy with my birds at this point..but speed is definatly improving.

Hey Paul, guess what? I just banded a "black self" Ruby Roller. I guess that spread modifier gene did jump from the lavs to the blue side after all! LOL

So I guess that black self you said is off the two Rubys is true! LOL Imagine that, 2 black selfs in 13 years! LMHO

In 2006 I paired most birds up with different mates than in '05, to see who was producing. Meanwhile, some of the'05 birds really kicked in some speed and quality at 14-16-18 months of age. I am anxious to get those pairs back together in 2007!

I just started breeding rollers again after being away from the breed for 15 yrs.Man that sounds like A LONG TIME!! I have different familys as i like to experiment and create.I know it will take me longer but time i've got (GOD willing)As most everyone else i'm looking for typi birds with consistency and depth.I also think it's important to concentrate on a single trait at a time and build from there to the next trait(Correct me if i'm wrong).I hope to compete in the near future.

Hey John, yes, Red Check W/F MCRC-87-609 is the grandmother to my foundation cock Lavendar LPRC-93-903. This Corderre hen: 609 touches everything in my loft.

My foundation cock:903's grandfather on mothers side is Dennis Gordair's NPA-88-RD-1909 off Ron Kumro's ARC-86-498 and Karl Krebs NBRC-86-220.

But pedigrees don't mean nuthin, LOL.

Tony that sounds good to me. I have son out of MCRC-87-609 mated up to a cock that Joe Angulo had picked up from Richard Jaconette when Joe was still here NPA-90-RJ-889 the cock off of that pairing 30' frequent i have mated him to a hen i bred off of the pair Ron Kumro sent me 136 Houghton line. The 609 hen is a great great grandaughter to NBRC-63-3757 on the mother's side John M.(HDRC)So.Cal.

Hey John, WOW!!!

I just looked it up on topnotchspinners site and printed a pedigree. I think like my foundation cock 903 is like a great, great, great, great, great grandson to Pensom's 514. AWESOME!

hey Tony,

This will be my first year that I havent lost most of my young birds from one thing or anouther. Hawks ,overflys...I have about 75 of this years left. 45 of them are in the loft locked up because they were showing good potential and I dont want to lose them. The rest are still flying. If they begin to show real potential they will be locked up too.

Soooo..... I do feel I got a better chance of putting together a good team this year. Just because I havent wasted them all to hawks and overflys, which would be my own fault. If I have anything better than last year its because I have learned control over myself and not kept flying when I shouldnt.
