Dave have you tried trimming the vents? Are they in a different cage?? Did you show him how to do it??? LOL

I've seperated them already but will be pairing them up again in January. I will probably try to trim the vent and even cut the tail later. He's one of my better broods.

How old is the hen he is with? Sometimes it is not the cock but the hen. The hen can be infertile but still lay eggs. I've had it happen to me a few times with some of my older stock hens that were getting along in age. You can prove which one it is by mating them to different mates. I'll be the younger cock hits on another hen.

I had a cock that would not fill an egg during the winter if his life depended on it....then around spring time...He was carrying around a pack of smokes for after and it was like he took a bottle of Viagra...SOme just go into Winter dormany (spelling ???) and there sperm count goes down.

Thanks for all the input. The hen is an '04 from Joe Emberton. I won't know until I pair them up again. Hope it's what you said Paul.
