Hi Coach,
I use the lid off of a large ice chest. It serves the purpose very well, is easy to wash off, and will last a lifetime. I used to use store bought metal trays that were what you would use for chickens also. Those worked but were harder to clean. I have also used the plastic lid off of a 5 gallon bucket. Again, very easy to clean. Hope this helps. Jerry

At weaning I use the long feeders to retain some familiarity in the kit box for a while. Then and forever afterwards I use large, square metal feed trays a friend of mine made in the sheetmetal shop. Each is 24"x24" with a lip that is just over an inch high. Works great and will last longer than I will ever have pigeons.

I use wooden troughs 36"X5" that has wire loops 2 inches apart to keep them from pooping in it. Bought them from Global Pigeon supply. I use these in the kit boxes. My kit boxes are 4'X4'x4(saves me from having to do so cutting when I build them) 36 inches does well with 20 to 24 birds without too much jockying for food eating space. You can get them longer or shorter, but not wider. The wire bails do work; I have no poop in my trays.

In my breeding loft I use a plastic bullit type feeder. The large size. This allows me to keep feed in front of them continueously.

Global has many other types of feeders as well to choose from.

Coach I use a commercial baking sheet that is 18"X 26" with a 3/4" lip and is alluminum. Works wonderfully and is only about 9 bucks at the local resturaunt supply. The great thing about these trays is they almost clean themselves in the summer when they get warmed up and in the winter as long as you pull them after feeding they stay very clean. Joe

I use a 30in. trough I built out of 1x4.I beam style with a 3/4 inch lip made of 1x2. Rip the center piece to 2 3/4 so there is about two inches for the birds to stick thier heads in and eat. The top hangs over the tray so thay can`t poop in it. I get a little "blow in" dry droppings. Easy to keep clean. Feeds 20

I'm using a chunk of plywood with 1/2"X2" screwed aroung the edge. This is too heavy for my 79 year old Mom to lift in and out when we are away and she is feeding the birds.Need something lighter.

It`s so easy,it takes longer to cut the pieces than to put it together. You can make it what ever length you would like. I have an 8 inch one I use for grit, charcoal and other supplments. If you want shoot 2 1/2 inch nails thru the top into the lip for individual slots.

My 10 year old daughter measured and I cut. She held, glued,I nailed,we watched, she fed, good time.

Gonna ask a question here. What is to keep the birds from pooping in the tray when they are eating out of it? Someone explain these trays to me please.

That's another problem with the plywood trays I'm using. If I get distracted(HAH!!)and don't pull the trays right away, they get shit on them for sure.Having a cover will solve that.

i use the regular 36" like the ones tony has up there without the top with holes in it and also after i put the feed in i spray water on the feed very lightly so that the feed wont spill with the birds running all around on the pans the feed practically sticks to the pan i see that people on here are talking bout how hard metal is to clean and this and that but if "YOU GET THE PANS OUT AFTER THEY EAT THERE IS NO MESS " so i dont understand how they would get dirty maybe i just have a lil more time on my hands who knows

My problem with the trays is #1,over 40 syndrom.
#2,over 100 birds.
#3,my 1/2 acre has so many things going on,the distractions are endless.

Kenny , it is the best way to insure everyone gets thier grub on an even basis, as the birds are eating I will redistribute the feed with my hand as needed.
When setting up for a fly I will feed only 5 at a time on the same size tray , I will pick each five by condition, in other words the strongest 5 eat together on downto the weakest.

Scott,
I have a round chick feeder in a 24x24x24 cage on the side of my box. I call it the locker room. I fix em up with the goods they need to be productive. I handle my birds pretty regularly. I watch them feed. Most are so busy gobbling whatever they can get a beak on they don`t have time to be picky. Picky eaters end up in the locker room. Too many times in the locker room and you don`t get a contract extension, you get a neck extension.

Different strokes bro.
