I have a few new breeders and want to clip their wings. I have lost a few over the past due to kids, wind blowing the door open, kids, ect. How much can I trim, one wing or both, and them still be able to get around in the loft? Or is it a bad idea?

ELECTRIC MAN. Theres no need to trim your wings on your pigeons, Just tape one wing using masking tape the stuff the decorators use when painting it works a treat then when the bird is used take the tape off. In my opinion its the best way and no need to wait for feather regrowth.PS keep them kids away from yer loft and invest in a good padlock for that door. regards W@yne uk

I've had birds stay after two weeks and I lost one the other day that had been here 4 months. You never know what there going to do the first time out. I have used tape but it wears off and you never know when its safe to quit using it until you let them out. These birds are never going to get out if I can help it. I could use locks on the door except I encourage my kids to enjoy this hobby.40 and 50 mph winds aren't uncommon here and it will catch the door sometimes. I have had my dog dig under once, my goats have pushed through the wire, thats what I meant by ect. The birds have never got away the same way twice, but they have found different ways out. I just thought clipping there wings was a sure way not to loose one and still do. Its worked on other fowl that I have raised. They didn't have to fly around in a loft though, thought maybe somebody else used this method!
