I'm trying to breed birds with shorter secondaries than primaries and have gotten some youngsters with longer secondaries than i like. Will this problem fix itself after their 1st moult or not?

Luis , the secondaries should always be shorter than the primaries even on the one's that "I" consider to long.
I don't like the roll on most birds with longer secondaries , they just don't seem to really wrap it up.
Long secondarys also mean thick or wide , I am assuming it has something to do with hindering airflow.
As for breeding for it , it should already be set in the birds where you just avoid the longer one's that pop up here and there , which is easy for me because they aren't the shining stars anyway.

From what I heard longer secondarys makes the roller able to hover or fly slower. It is easier for the bird to control itself after the roll = less rolldown or bumping. Shorter secondarys have faster velocity and depth, but less control. More air is able to pass through the feathers. Jim

Mr JX, my feeling is the feather has nothing to do with the birds ability to pull out as long as he has feathers.LOL. The velocity and style is what we should all be working toward and wider feathers to me means a slower spinning bird. A birds control is something that is bred into them( they either have it or they don't ) and giving them bigger feathers isn't going to give it to them. Joe Urbon

Jim , feathering rather it be secondaries or tail has nothing to do with control , control issues are due to weakness mentaly and or physicaly .
