I'm getting ready to add to my library in 2007. A few questions for the well-read roller folks on this forum:
Which roller book, in your estimation, is the best one on the market today? Why? If you were writing a new roller book for established roller fanciers, what would it contain? For novice fanciers?
Time to head out and put a few pairs in the indvidual pens to pre-mate them.
Hope your holidays are superb and your 2007 season a step in the right direction.

Every breeder library should contain: The Pigeon by Levi and Encyclopedia Of Pigeon Breeds by Levi.
If you don't have these, get them first. For Rollers Tony has some for sale that are excellent.

Thanks, Nicksiders, but I have had those books in my library since the 1960s. What I am looking for is a recommendation for ROLLER books. If a member of your family offered to buy you ONE roller book right now, which roller book would that be? LOL.
I've perused the books Tony has for sale, plus those at Foy's, etc. Are Hatcher's books of value? The Roller Guide?
Guess I'll just buy them all and read them to see.

The best book for the money is "The Birmingham Roller Pigeon" by WHP. If you are a new person to the breed, this book will confuse the hell out of you. LOL However, if you read this book, and re-read it several times over, you will from time to time find yourself recollecting back to the book due to your own experiences with this breed. I would say that 90% of what is discussed in this book would hold true today, and that the other 10% even the author would have changed his mind on in the years preceeding his death, as is evidenced by his earlier writings.

I agree with Rick, everytime I read that book I pick up something new or understand more of what he's saying.
Nick mentioned "The Pigeon" by Levi , man what a classic and a must have.
As for Hatcher , I liked his first one alot due to the history of the old timers and old pictures.
Not much in any others for me.

Thanks for the feedback. Hatcher's "Keys" was one I was considering. Are those interviews with US fanciers ONLY?
Yes, Mee my man, I am new to the roller world. Have Pensom's Bible in hand and have read it at least five times. True, a gem emerges each time. I struggled with the idea that you can select breeders in the loft--character and all. But finally understood that notion. Fly 'em. Know 'em. Then pick 'em in the loft before some damn predator destroys them. BTW that problem female, Rick, is history. It tried to take a chicken in my back coop--and got tangled in the aviary wire where I rescued it. Capish! LOL. Hope your kits are flying well by now. And welcome home. If ANCOC doesn't intrude as you expect, I'll be by in the spring.
"Winners with Spinners" was another choice. Appreciate the ideas. I'll order them today.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas.

Had to order three other items from Jedd's--like to make it one for one rather than two for two. And Tony already has my order for bands; that should "help" a bit. That's as big a sport as I can be today. LOL.
Man, youse guys don't miss a beat do you?
